Jean Coutu Group adds photo boutique to app

LONGUEUIL, Quebec — The Jean Coutu Group has announced that it now is offering a photo boutique on its iPhone application, which enables users to have photos printed through a smartphone.

The new Jean Coutu Photo Boutique is designed for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad platforms. Users can take photos with their integrated picture camera, add photos from albums, modify the photos (re-center, zoom and add text or a date), select, share or print formats, share photos by email, post photos on Facebook or Twitter, or have photos printed and then picked up at the Jean Coutu pharmacy of their choice.

"We are very proud to add this new function to our Jean Coutu application. In cooperation with Tactio Software, we have created a state-of-the-art iPhone application that allows our customers to print their photos more easily. More and more people use a smartphone, so it had become important to position ourselves at the technological forefront and so remain a leader in our sector," stated Alain Lafortune, SVP purchasing and marketing at the Jean Coutu Group.

Sears Holdings CFO exits

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart parent company Sears Holdings has named William Phelan as acting CFO, replacing Michael Collins, currently SVP and CFO, who resigned last week to pursue another opportunity, the company reported in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Collins will remain with the company until June 10 in order to ensure a smooth transition, Sears noted in the filing.

Phelan was elected SVP and controller of the company in September 2007. From December 2007 until December 2008, he also served as the company’s treasurer. From the consummation of the merger involving Kmart Holding and Sears, Roebuck and Co. in March 2005 until September 2007, Phelan served as VP and controller. Prior to the consummation of the merger, he served in a variety of finance positions with Sears, Roebuck and Co., which he joined in 1992.

Rite Aid raised more than $50 million for Children’s Miracle Network since 1994

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has raised more than $50 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since becoming a sponsor in 1994, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Rite Aid stores have been selling $1 paper Miracle Balloons since April in a campaign that will end Saturday, having raised $2.9 million so far this year. To mark the $50 milestone, celebrations will take place at stores in Bronx, N.Y.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Hershey, Pa.; Norfolk, Va.; and Eugene, Ore.

“I’m so proud of our company and associates for raising a total of more than $50 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” Rite Aid president and CEO John Standley said. “It’s one of Rite Aid’s core values to be a caring neighbor, and through our partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and the help of our generous customers, we’re helping to make miracles happen for sick and injured children right in our own communities.”
