Impax confirms patent challenge for generic Nuedexta
HAYWARD, Calif. — Impax Labs has hit a roadblock in its attempts to market a generic pseudobulbar affect treatment.
Impax said that Avanir Pharmaceuticals, Avanir Holding Co. and the Center for Neurologic Study filed a patent infringement suit in the U.S. District Court of Delaware in connection with Impax’s attempt to market a generic version of Nuedexta capsules (dextromethorphan hydrobromide and quinidine sulfate) in the 20-mg/10-mg strength.
The generic drug maker recently submitted an abbreviated new drug application containing a paragraph IV certification to the Food and Drug Administration, which was accepted by the regulatory agency.
U.S. sales of Nuedexta were approximately $3.6 million for the seven-month period ended in July, according to Wolters Kluwer Health data.
NACDS honors Bartell Drugs’ Ed Littleton with Harold W. Pratt Award
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Industry veteran and Bartell Drugs COO Ed Littleton was recognized for his dedication to pharmacy during this year’s National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ Pharmacy and Technology Conference and was bestowed the association’s highest honor: the Harold W. Pratt Award.
Serving more than 40 years in the industry, Littleton has spent the last 20 years with Seattle-based Bartell Drugs. Prior to that, he served 22 years with Pay ‘n Save.
Harold W. Pratt, for whom the award is named, dedicated himself to many years of service at Walgreens, becoming the industry’s first director of professional services. Over the course of his 43 years of service to Walgreens, Pratt came to be recognized as the “dean” of pharmacy professional service directors. He worked tirelessly to grow and promote pharmacy operations. Pratt also served as chairman of the first NACDS Pharmacy and Technology Conference.
The annual award that is named for Pratt, established in 1985 by the NACDS board of directors, recognizes individuals whose activities have contributed to the promotion, recognition and improvement of the practice of pharmacy within the chain drug industry.
During the presentation of the award, H-E-B chief administrative officer and NACDS chairman of the board of directors Robert Loeffler read a comment from George Bartell, chairman and CEO of Bartell Drugs.
“There are few individuals as humble, considerate and as focused as Ed. His wonderful sense of humor is an added bonus,” Bartell said.
“NACDS is absolutely honored to present the distinguished Harold W. Pratt Award to Ed Littleton,” said Loeffler in his remarks during the award presentation. "He has always devoted his full energy to the business, to serving our customers and supporting the employees we count on to deliver that service — in our pharmacies and in the rest of the business. He has continually tried to learn how to improve the practice of pharmacy and has always been willing to share.”
