Hellmann’s offers new tangy whipped dressing

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Hellmann’s announced today expansion of its product line with what the company calls the brand’s first Real Whipped Tangy Dressing.

Hellmann’s Real Whipped Tangy Dressing has fewer calories and a tangy taste profile versus mayonnaise, the company stated. Real Whipped Tangy Dressing is made with oil, vinegar, cage-free eggs and select seasonings.

Hellmann’s Real Whipped Tangy Dressing is available at major retailers, such as Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger and Hy-Vee, in the Midwest and Central region of the country.

Bumble Bee Foods makes push for growing Hispanic market

MIAMI — Seafood brand Bumble Bee Foods has hired Hispanic celebrity chef Doreen Colondres in order to connect with the growing Hispanic market in the United States, the company said Wednesday.

Bumble Bee announced its partnership with Colondres at the 2013 Hispanicize Conference in Miami. Colondres is known for her cooking segments on Fox’s Utilisima Network and is the creator of The Kitchen Doesn’t Bite brand and website. She also is part of the "Latin kitchen" movement, which promotes cooking with fresh, healthy and seasonal ingredients, and will develop recipes that feature Bumble Bee products, as well as Latin flavors and fresh ingredients.

"I am thrilled to partner with Bumble Bee to help educate the growing Hispanic community about the benefits of eating seafood as part of a healthy lifestyle combining a well-balanced diet with exercise," Colondres said. "With only two countries in Latin America without a coastline, seafood is a stable of Latin cuisine, and Bumble Bee offers a full line of canned and pouched tuna, salmon, sardine and specialty protein products that make seafood accessible and enjoyable year-round."

Drug take-back events scheduled for 35 Giant-Carlisle stores

CARLISLE, Pa. — Thirty-five Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets stores in Pennsylvania and Virginia will sponsor drug take-back events later this month.

The chains, which collectively comprise Ahold USA’s Giant-Carlisle banner, will sponsor the events on April 27, in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Patients can bring expired and unwanted medications, which will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner for free.

"We’re proud to partner with the DEA and local law enforcement authorities to assist customers with properly disposing of unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications and to reduce the amount of medication polluting our environment and our local communities," Giant-Carlisle director of pharmacy operations Leigh Shirley said.

In other news, Giant-Carlisle announced the completion of a remodel of its Halifax, Pa., store. The newly remodeled store includes a wider selection of products and services, including self-serve EasyScan registers and Nature’s Promise Marketplace, a section dedicated to natural and organic products, including 16 feet of space dedicated to gluten-free products.
