Health Mart unveils new line of private-label products
SAN FRANCISCO — Health Mart on Tuesday officially unveiled its Health Mart brand, a new line of private-label, over-the-counter products that will help place the Health Mart banner in America’s medicine cabinets.
The Health Mart private label will launch with diabetes products to coincide with National Diabetes Month.
“Health Mart pharmacies continue to be recognized by consumers as healthcare leaders; this is most recently exemplified by the franchise ranking highest in overall customer satisfaction among chain drug stores in the J.D. Power National Pharmacy Study,” stated Brian Tyler, president of McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical. “The Health Mart private label will help our Health Mart pharmacists advance their relationships with customers with an affordable, high-quality line of over-the-counter health products.”
The distinctive Health Mart private-label package design features a white lab coat combined with the iconic mortar and pestle to reinforce the promise of personalized patient care that Health Mart customers receive.
Additional healthcare categories will be added regularly, with smoking-cessation and analgesics products scheduled to launch in January. The Health Mart private label will grow to include products for upper respiratory, baby care, first aid, personal diagnostics, skin care, vitamins, incontinence, eye and ear care, and digestive health categories.
According to Nielsen, private-label products are growing faster than branded products across most over-the-counter categories, with sales increasing 7% over the past year. Items for the Health Mart private label were selected through a careful analysis of the best-performing products as preferred by consumers. The new line provides Health Mart pharmacies the ability to offer high-quality products at retail prices as much as 20% to 40% less than national-brand varieties.
Performance Health introduces single-use topical analgesic applicator
AKRON, Ohio — Performance Health this summer expanded its Perform product family with the introduction of Perform Pain Relieving Singles. The single-use format provides the benefits of cold therapy in an innovative, no-touch, no-mess package that’s small enough to fit in a pocket.
“We are very excited to launch this truly innovative delivery mechanism to the topical analgesic category," stated Jennifer Bloomhuff, product manager Performance Health. "This is an ideal on-the-go solution to supplement our consumers’ current product usage. … It’s small enough to keep in a pocket or purse and can even be used mid activity, for example, while out on a run or a bike ride. The no-touch applicator pad keeps hands clean during use, which is important when you’re on the go. You no longer have to wait until you get home to treat pain; just hold, fold and apply.”
In addition to the new on-the-go singles, Perform Pain Reliever is a cold therapy muscle rub available in a gel, spray, and roll-on.
Walgreens offers free testing during National Diabetes Month
DEERFIELD, Ill. — Select Walgreens across the country will offer free blood-glucose testing during National Diabetes Month this November, Walgreens announced Monday.
Free blood-glucose testing will be available in 33 states and Washington, D.C., with a coupon through November. A coupon for the test, a $20 value, can be found in each store and in Walgreens’ weekly ad in many Sunday newspapers. Last November, 1-in-4 customers who received blood-glucose tests in Walgreens stores during diabetes awareness events tested outside of the desired range or high, meaning they might be at risk for developing diabetes.
"Diabetes is a serious health issue facing communities across the country, and blood-glucose testing is an example of how our pharmacists are offering accessible, preventable healthcare services that help people live well and stay well," stated Suzanne Hansen, Walgreens group VP pharmacy operations. "We want customers and patients to understand their numbers and the importance of knowing that they can make informed decisions about their health."
In addition to free blood-glucose testing, all participating 24-hour Walgreens will hold "Wellness Wednesdays" events from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 2, 9 and 16. Locations will provide information about diabetes management, Bayer blood-glucose meters and also feature in-store sampling of Glucerna Hunger Smart bars and shakes that are specially formulated for people with diabetes.
Walgreens also teamed up with Sharps and Novo Nordisk to offer a safe and easy needle disposal option for people who self-inject medications. When customers purchase the Complete Needle Collection and Disposal System, they will receive a rebate form at the register for the $4.99 cost of the system through the end of November. For customers concerned with environmentally responsible disposal, the receipt also will include a coupon for free return postage and incineration of the container and needles (a $20 value).
