HDMA re-elects chair and vice chair, names two new board members

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Healthcare Distribution Management Association on Tuesday announced the re-election of David Neu, president of AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. as chairman of its board of directors. Ted Scherr, president and CEO of Dakota Drug, also was re-elected as vice chairman.  

Additionally, HDMA welcomed two members to the Board. Mark Walchirk, president of McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical, was elected to replace Paul Julian, EVP and group president of McKesson Corporation, on the board and executive committee. 

And Mary Tim Smith, CFO R&S Northeast, was elected to replace Greg Duche, CEO R&S Northeast.   

“We are pleased to have Dave and Ted continue on as chairman and vice chairman; both bring a wealth of leadership experience to their roles,” stated HDMA president and CEO John Gray. “I also want to welcome Mark and Mary to their new positions, and thank Paul Julian and Greg Duche for their years of service. With a variety of issues now facing the distribution industry, the board will have no shortage of discussions on critical supply chain and legislative priorities.”

Advil named ‘Official Pain Reliever of the NHL’

NEW YORK — Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and the National Hockey League on Monday announced Advil as the Official Partner and the Official Pain Reliever of the NHL and the 30 NHL athletic trainers in North America for the 2013-14 season. Under the agreement, Advil is also an Official Partner and the Official Pain Reliever of the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic and the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. 

“The Advil brand has joined the NHL family at a very exciting time,” stated Dave Lehanski, SVP integrated sales for NHL. “With the most ambitious series of big events in league history planned for this season — six outdoor games over 61 days — we are delivering unprecedented fan engagement while offering our partners more opportunities to activate than ever before.”

"The NHL deal provides a terrific platform for driving the launch of our new, fast-acting Advil line,” commented Brian Groves, U.S. chief marketing officer at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. “We see the players and the league as embodying the fast-acting Advil promise of fast recovery from tough pain."

As an official partner of the NHL, Advil will receive significant media exposure, including prominent in-ice brand position, camera-visible dasherboards and placement at accompanying fan festivals of league tent-pole events. Advil will also benefit from custom integration throughout all NHL-controlled media properties, including NHL.com, NHL Network and NHL Social, in addition to the league’s U.S. national broadcast partner, NBC Sports Group.

Nutrisystem announces sponsorship of American Diabetes Association’s annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. — Nutrisystem on Monday announced it will sponsor and have more than 100 employees and their families, including CEO Dawn Zier and new Nutrisystem ambassador, Andy Baldwin, join the company at the American Diabetes Association’s annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes in Philadelphia. On Oct. 5, Baldwin will walk with Zier and Fort Washington-based Nutrisystem employees as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to support the fight against diabetes.

Baldwin, a family physician, is perhaps best known for his stint on the ABC show "The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman." He is working with Nutrisystem to raise awareness about the need for healthier family lifestyles focusing on everything from food choices to exercise routines.  

While serving as a doctor, Baldwin also remains active in his athletic and charitable pursuits, including domestic and global humanitarian projects. He is the founder of the Got Your Back Network, a nonprofit organization that raises money to support families of fallen soldiers.
