Halle Berry, Fergie among recipients of FiFi Awards

NEW YORK — The Fragrance Foundation has announced that Halle Berry and Fergie are among the celebrities to be honored during the annual FiFi Awards Celebration in late May.

More than 800 guests will mix and mingle with the talents being honored on May 25 at Lincoln Center in New York. Thirty-eight crystal statuettes will be awarded.

Taking home the 2011 FiFi Fragrance Celebrity of the Year Award is actress Berry. The award is to honor a celebrity who has embraced and promoted the world of fragrance over a period of time.

Fergie has been named the recipient of the 2011 FiFi New Fragrance Celebrity of the Year Award. This award recognizes a celebrity whose very first fragrance has enjoyed instant success with the consumer and brought recognition to the fragrance category.

Jean Paul Gaultier will be honored with the 2011 FiFi Hall of Fame Award. The award is presented to an individual who has brought extraordinary ingenuity, creativity, dedication and inner resources to bear, not only to his or her company’s success, but also to the fragrance industry as a whole.

P&G announces organizational changes

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble has announced a string of organizational changes, including the retirement of Edward Shirley, vice chairman of beauty and grooming, after 33 years of service.

Shirley will retire from P&G, effective Jan. 1, 2012. Until that time, effective July 1, 2011, Shirley has been named vice chairman on special assignment, continuing to report to Robert McDonald, P&G chairman, president and CEO. Shirley will be focused on ensuring the seamless transition of the beauty and grooming business, P&G stated.

Dimitri Panayotopoulos, vice chairman of global household care, has been appointed vice chairman­ of global business units, assuming responsibility for both the beauty and grooming and household care businesses. Panayotopoulos will continue to report to McDonald.

Shirley’s career began with Gillette, where he held positions of growing importance culminating in being appointed president of international commercial operations prior to the acquisition of the Gillette business by P&G in 2005. He was appointed group president of P&G’s North American business following the acquisition, and was promoted to the role of vice chairman of beauty and grooming in 2008.

"Ed has had an outstanding career," stated McDonald. "He was one of the most respected leaders at Gillette and he played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the Gillette integration into P&G. He continued that inspirational leadership of our North American operations, and then as vice chairman provided the strategic vision to energize the growth of our beauty and grooming global businesses."

As part of this management change, P&G will move its two global business units — beauty and grooming and household care — under the leadership of Panayotopoulos.

"Dimitri is another outstanding leader whose vision will continue to help drive our growth strategy. This new structure is the right one for the business at this point in time. This evolution of our structure is normal business practice for us and may evolve further in the future as our strategy and business conditions create new needs and opportunities," McDonald added.

JPC tapped as ‘Jumping the Broom’ hair care partner

DALLAS — Ethnic hair care company Johnson Products Co. has announced that it is the official U.S. hair care partner for Sony Pictures’ comedy "Jumping the Broom," which opens in theaters May 6.

JPC is using its newest hair care line, Ultra Care, a moisture maintenance and relaxer line, to support the comedy about two African-American families from divergent socioeconomic backgrounds who come together one weekend in Martha’s Vineyard for a wedding. The film features actors Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso and Loretta Divine.

JPC will integrate "Jumping the Broom" into the spring national advertising and promotion of the Ultra Care brand. The company will promote "Jumping the Broom" in Ultra Care’s full-page print advertising running in Jet and Essence magazines in May. JPC also will promote the partnership on its Facebook page, and will give away Ultra Care gift packs via radio in more than 50 markets, as well as create a "Get The Style" PR component featuring actress Meagan Good, who also stars in the movie.

"We at Johnson Products Co. are thrilled to support ‘Jumping the Broom’ and its producers," JPC brand manager Delene Cormier said. "This partnership is a first for us and we hope it will introduce our great new Ultra Care line to a new audience of consumers in a creative and nontraditional way."

JPC’s collaboration with "Jumping the Broom" falls under the company’s strategy to deliver a 360 Degree° Lifestyle Marketing Mix to its consumers.

This type of marketing outreach allows for JPC to communicate to its consumers the features and benefits of its products by generating product and brand awareness in advertising and promotional campaigns.
