Haggen president, CEO stepping down

NEW YORK — The head of a regional supermarket chain based in the Pacific Northwest is stepping down, according to published reports.

The Bellingham, Wash., Herald reported that Haggen president and CEO Clarence Gabriel would step down and be replaced by three other members of its management team. The company did not elaborate on why Gabriel was resigning, according to the newspaper.

Gabriel has more than 25 years of senior leadership experience in the consumer retail, supply chain management and manufacturing sectors. He has served in senior positions at several companies, including Albertsons and Pepsi-Cola

Based in Bellingham, Haggen operates 28 stores in Washington and Oregon and is one of Washington’s largest private companies, the Herald reported.

SISU Entertainment launches ‘Shalom Sesame’ DVD club

NEW YORK — The award-winning "Shalom Sesame" DVD series is now available as part of a year-long DVD club designed to provide consumers a wide array of discount purchasing plans to meet their specific needs, SISU Entertainment announced today.

SISU is offering several different programs within the Shalom Sesame DVD Club, which is free to join. Members can opt for purchasing the entire DVD series or single titles for a 15% discount off the SRP of $14.95, in a single shipment, or on a monthly basis similar to the famed book clubs. "Shalom Sesame" is a 12-part DVD series co-produced by Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, and Israel’s Channel HOP, featuring lovable, furry Grover and celebrity host Anneliese van der Pol — of That’s So Raven and Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast — as they travel to Israel meeting new people and learning new things. Each 30-minute, live-action and animated DVD focuses on storylines drawn from Jewish cultural traditions, highlighting lessons on Hebrew letters and words, unique sites in Israel and Jewish values. Through Sesame Street characters, celebrities and stories, viewers learn about Jewish traditions, culture and holidays, such as Purim, Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Guest appearances by celebrity talent include Debra Messing, Achinoam Nini, Mira Awad, Jake Gyllenhaal, Christina Applegate and Greg Kinnear.

“We are pleased to make this very popular series available through the Shalom Sesame DVD Club, which offers discounts and exclusive benefits, free of charge, to its members,” said Haim Scheininger, president of SISU Home Entertainment, Inc. “In addition to the DVD series, three million viewers have watched its PBS broadcast and millions more are expected to watch "Shalom Sesame"’s “Chanukah the Missing Menorah” episode on PBS this December. CVS/pharmacy promotes itself as one-stop-shop holiday destination

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy is reminding holiday shoppers that it is a one-stop shop for holiday décor and an ideal gift destination for tech gadgets, beauty products and toys.

"During the holiday season, customers come into CVS/pharmacy to shop for holiday staples like gift wrap and batteries, but end up leaving with presents for their loved ones and decorations for the home they didn’t know we carry," stated Judy Sansone, SVP merchandising for CVS/pharmacy. "Savvy shoppers have been pleasantly surprised to find everything they need all in one place while saving money, which makes the shopping season less stressful."

In addition to the opportunities to save and earn rewards each week at CVS/pharmacy this holiday season, members of the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare rewards program who have signed up for the Double Quarterly ExtraBucks program can earn 4% — instead of 2% — from now through Dec. 15 on most gift purchases. All Double Quarterly ExtraBucks Rewards will be paid out starting on Jan. 1, 2013, and shoppers can use them like "free CVS money" that can be spent on most things in the store.

Additionally, CVS/pharmacy has taken the deals to social channels and is encouraging consumers to visit the CVS/pharmacy Facebook and Twitter pages for information about special sales throughout the season.
