H. D. Smith CFO to join Chicago Public Schools as new CFO
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Pharmaceutical wholesaler H. D. Smith announced on Thursday that Dave Watkins, CFO, will leave the company to join Chicago Public Schools as its new CFO, effective Nov. 7.
H. D. Smith stated that it will soon name an executive to serve as interim CFO while a search for a replacement is conducted.
In his new role, Watkins will be taking a leadership position in addressing the financial challenges of the third-largest school district in the United States, serving more than 400,000 students.

While we are sad to see him leave, we are also very proud that he will be taking his skills into public service and continuing to exhibit the service-centric values H. D. WAG’s Indiana-based return center receives VPP Star award recertification
DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens said its Valparaiso, Ind.-based return center has been recertified with a Voluntary Protection Program Star award from the Indiana Department of Labor.
The VPP Star award, which was presented to the return center by IDOL deput commissioner Jeffrey Carter on Thursday, marks IDOL’s highest designation for workplace safety and recognizes businesses that show excellence in occupational safety and health, Walgreens said.
“This award is a clear example of our commitment to the well-being of our team members and our work together to go above and beyond required standards,” Walgreens return center manager Teri Myers said. “I couldn’t be prouder of our team’s accomplishment and look forward to continuing our leadership in this area for years to come.”
Abbott launches Glucerna Hunger Smart line
ABBOTT PARK, Ill. — Abbott has introduced a new line of nutrition shakes and bars for people with diabetes.
Glucerna Hunger Smart includes two flavors of nutrition shakes, including homemade vanilla and rich chocolate, in addition to two flavors of nutrition bars, including chocolate peanut butter crisp and chocolate chip crisp.
"Abbott scientists have been designing and studying the benefits of nutrition formulas specifically for people with diabetes for several decades," Abbott’s divisional VP of global research and development and scientific affairs Robert Miller said. "We’ve taken our expertise with slowly digested carbohydrates, which are clinically shown to help minimize blood sugar spikes, and have designed a new product to help manage hunger. Glucerna Hunger Smart helps to manage hunger and is designed to be an important part of a weight management plan for people with diabetes."
