GMDC Gives Lifetime Achievement Award to Murray
PALM DESERT, Calif. The Global Market Development Center awarded its 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award to former Proctor & Gamble executive Wally Murray at its HBW Conference in Palm Desert, Calif. on Sept. 10.
Murray served in a variety of roles at Proctor & Gamble during his 34-year career in sales and sales management at both the national and global levels. He retired in 2002. The GMDC is the leading global trade association serving general merchandise and health, beauty and wellness retailers.
Giant Eagle may still get LeNature plant
PITTSBURGH Giant Eagle and Cadbury Schweppes have come to terms on an agreement that would see the bankrupt Le-Nature’s bottling plant revert to Giant Eagle ownership for a sum of $19 million, according to court papers filed Wednesday.
Originally, Giant Eagle was awarded the bottling plant for a sum of $20 million, which beat out Cadbury’s bid of $19 million. However, the court voided Giant Eagle’s bid following disclosures that the Pittsburgh-based grocer may have threatened to cut $7 million in annual orders of Cadbury’s beverages. Judge Bruce McCullough also ruled Giant Eagle must forfeit its $2 million bidding deposit.
Under the terms of the proposed settlement, Todd Neilson, Le-Nature’s court-appointed trustee, would drop his objections to Cadbury selling the plant to Giant Eagle—Cadbury had informed the court it would likely sell the plant to Giant Eagle if its bid was accepted for the bottling plant over the objections of Neilson.
In exchange, Giant Eagle will pay $2.3 million, drop plans to appeal the judge’s order that it forfeit the $2 million deposit, and pay some $89,000 to help move a sewer line at the plant, a cost Le-Nature’s had originally agreed to pay.
The proposed settlement will be considered at a Sept. 25 hearing.
DemandTec releases latest version of optimization suite
SAN CARLOS, Calif. DemandTec recently introduced a new update for their optimization suite, which will enhance usage and advanced analytics for retailers and consumer product manufacturers.
The new update has some new and advanced features like, enhanced user interface design, which gives modifications to navigation and other elements within pricing, promotion, and markdown processes. New graphic visualization for users to see how models and optimization science is delivering sales volume benefits, profitability, and revenue. Advanced web elements to offer greater interactive use on a web-based application is also a feature of the update.
“This release, our 28th in the last 40 months, highlights the value of the on-demand model compared to traditional behind-the-firewall software implementations,” said Marc Dietz, vice president of product marketing at DemandTec.
The DemandTec suite of applications is used by retailers and consumer products companies to optimize prices, promotions, and other strategic decisions, and to collaborate more effectively with their trading partners.
