Giant Food unveils latest gas station in Phoenixville, Pa.
PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. — A Giant Food location in Phoenixville, Pa., opened its new gas station Wednesday, Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant said.
Royal Ahold-owned Giant, also known as Giant-Carlisle — to distinguish it from Landover, Md.-based Giant Food, owned by the same company — said the station would have eight pumps.
“We are excited to offer our customers a location where they can fulfill their shopping and fuel needs with a single stop,” store manager Jonathan Smith said. “This new fuel station will also provide our customers with another convenient site to fill up their tanks and redeem Giant gas extra rewards points.”
Dentists may help ID prediabetes, diabetes among undiagnosed patients
NEW YORK — A visit to the dentist may offer a chance to catch prediabetes or diabetes in patients unaware that they have it, according to a new study.
Researchers at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine found that patients seeing a dentist could be identified as showing symptoms of the conditions, such as periodontal disease.
The study, published in the Journal of Dental Research, recruited about 600 patients in northern Manhattan ages 30 years and older. Of those patients, about 530 were identified as having at least one diabetes risk factor — such as weight problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or a family history of the disease — and were given a periodontal examination and blood sugar test. Patients with prediabetes or diabetes were identified based on a measure that factored their number of missing teeth and deep periodontal pockets.
Lorillard recalls certain Newport cigarette packs
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Lorillard has voluntarily recalled certain Newport non-menthol cigarettes.
The recall was initiated after the company discovered that some of the cigarettes manufactured between June 29 and 30 could contain small pieces of plastic. At this point, no plastic has been found in any of the cigarettes, but if burned, the plastic may create respiratory discomfort or irritation, Lorillard said.
Customers that purchase cigarette packs or cartons with the following code numbers should return them for a full refund of the purchase price: 1-O-29-750, 1-O-29-440, 1-O-30-750 and 1-O-30-440.
