Garnier, TerraCycle team up again to create green garden

NEW YORK — Last year, Garnier and TerraCycle transformed more than 1,500 lbs of recycled personal care waste into a one-of-a-kind Garnier Green Garden in New York City. This year, Garnier and TerraCycle have announced the nationwide rollout of the Garnier Green Garden Project, a program designed to create gardens for deserving communities.

In a contest called "Where Should Our Garden Grow?" Garnier and TerraCycle have asked for public participation to help choose the most deserving community organization to receive the next Green Garden, capable of yielding more than 2,000 lbs of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers. The gardens not only provide communities with a safe space to connect and enjoy nature, but they also allow residents to grow their own fresh food.

The beauty waste to be used in the garden is collected through Garnier’s Personal Care and Beauty Brigade, a free recycling and fundraising program that pays for every piece of waste collected and returned to TerraCycle. The collected beauty waste, which would otherwise be destined for landfills, consists of nonrecyclable hair care, skin care and cosmetic packaging. These products will be recycled by TerraCycle to create many of the plastic components of the garden, such as raised beds, picnic tables and trashcans.

Each Garnier Green Garden will include the following features:

  • 100% completely recycled materials
  • Designated areas for garden plants
  • Rest and seating areas
  • Beautiful and practical design and landscaping

Having received hundreds of nominations during the initial contest entry phase, Garnier and TerraCycle narrowed the candidates down to five organizations:

  • The Green Scheme in Washington, D.C.

  • The ReFresh Project in New Orleans, L.A.

  • The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative in Detroit    
  • Garfield Park in Chicago
  • Social Justice Learning Institute in Los Angeles

DALLAS — U by Kotex brand by Kimberly-Clark is helping women “Save the Undies” by introducing a new dimension of feminine care protection — 3D capture core — to all its Ultra Thin pads to help lock away wetness and stop leaks.

The launch of U by Kotex products with 3D capture core is an integral part of “Save the Undies, an integrated marketing program that is supported by an increased focus on digital and social engagements; TV and online advertising; digital content, such as personality–based quizzes and arcade style games; and experiential elements, including activist events and event sponsorships.

In addition to the brand’s quest to “Save the Undies,” Kotex Natural Balance products will now feature the U by Kotex name. As part of this rebranding, all Kotex Natural Balance products are undergoing a redesign.

Milani Cosmetics kicks off first-ever nationwide contest

LOS ANGELES — Multicultural color cosmetics brand Milani Cosmetics has unveiled its first ever nationwide contest, which is aimed at empowering women to express themselves through the art of cosmetics.

Through its “What Do Your Lips Say About You?” campaign Milani Cosmetics is encouraging women of all ages and ethnicities to design a bespoke lip-look that speaks to their unique personalities. Each applicant will have the chance to win the grand prize of $2,000 in cash and $1,000 worth of Milani product. 
The contest is separated into two rounds with the first round kicking off on May 6, asking women to enter photos of their lip-fashion while describing what their lips say about them using an eloquent self-expressing hashtag. Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST May 25. The first 500 entries will receive a Color Statement Lipstick. 


A panel of Milani appointed judges will choose 12 finalists to enter into round two based on the originality of each contestant’s lip-voice as well as quality in skill. Each finalist will receive $150 worth of Milani product and be asked to create a full lip-focused look using Milani Cosmetics. Cosmetics provided will include: Color Statement Lipstick, Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss, Baked Blush, Even Touch Powder Foundation, Cream to Powder, Liquid Eye Eyeliner and Runway Lashes, Eye Tech Extreme.

On June 30, 2014, the 12 finalists will release their Milani lip-inspired makeup look and the voting will be passed on to the general public, allowing one vote per person per day. The winning look will receive $2,000 in cash and $1,000 worth of Milani cosmetics, while the runner-up will receive $500 work of products. Winners will be announced on July 14.
