Fresh & Easy launches Ready to Cook line

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy has launched a new range of more than 50 preseasoned, ready-to-cook items in stores just in time for the summer grilling season. The Ready to Cook line includes beef, pork, chicken, fish and vegetable options all premarinated or preseasoned, ready to go straight in the skillet, microwave or on the grill.

“As we move into summer, more people are coming together for barbecues, graduations, and picnics and everyone wants to find great deals on quality meats and veggies they can easily throw on the grill,” said Anthony Johnson, Fresh & Easy’s category manager for meat, fish and poultry. “Customers can easily and affordably put together a meal with unique flavor combinations with our new ‘Ready to Cook’ appetizers, meats and sides.”

Some of the new Fresh & Easy Ready to Cook products introduced for this summer include:

  • Jalapeno poppers (9 oz.): $3.49;

  • Stuffed red peppers (11 oz.): $3.99;

  • BBQ bacon and cheese patties 1.2lbs: $5.49;

  • Sweet chili and apricot pork chops 1.25lbs: $5.99;

  • Tequila and orange chicken 1.25lb: $5.99;

  • Chili, pepper and garlic barbacoa beef 1.25lb: $6.99;

  • Atlantic salmon skewers with spicy orange sauce 12oz: $5.99;

  • Mango chipotle albacore tuna (12 oz.): $6.99;

  • Mushroom and onion steak topper (10 oz.): $2.62;

  • Chili herb sweet potatoes (12 oz.): $3.49; and

  • Baby gold potatoes and onions with lemon herb butter (15 oz.): $3.49.

Guayaki introduces Yerba Mate sparkling beverages

CHICAGO — Guayaki is expanding its Yerba Mate portfolio with a new sparkling beverage line.

Guayaki Sparkling Yerba Mate beverages, available in cola-flavored classic gold, cranberry pomegranate and grapefruit ginger flavors, are sold in 12-oz. Rexam Sleek cans. Yerba Mate is a caffeine alternative that provides "strength of coffee, the health benefits of tea and the euphoria of chocolate" and also is organic and Fair Trade certified, the company said. The Yerba Mate portfolio currently includes such products tea bags, bottled tea and energy shots.

"Our new sparkling beverages will give even more people the opportunity to experience the distinctive benefits of Yerba Mate," Guayaki co-founder and VP marketing David Karr said. "This is an important step in our ongoing effort to make Yerba Mate more accessible to a mainstream audience."

Lifeway Foods boosts retail distribution

MORTON GROVE, Ill. — Lifeway Foods is expanding the distribution of its kefir line in Target stores, as well as adding new Lifeway products to Target’s dairy cases.

The company said the available of Lifeway Kefir items in Target will increase from 170 to 453 locations, with the addition of three flavors of 8-oz. Lifeway Kefir four-packs to Target’s offerings. Specifically, the distribution expansion covers multiple flavors and sizes of Lifeway Kefir and Lifeway ProBugs, children’s line of organic Kefir with a no-spill pouch and kid-friendly flavors.

"The broader availability of Lifeway Kefir at this major retailer speaks to its growing popularity among consumers and the recognition of the need to offer healthy alternatives to the high-fat, high-calorie foods that fill grocery shelves today," Lifeway president and CEO Julie Smolyansky said. "This is a strong indication that distribution of our kefir products will continue to expand to new and existing customers, and contribute to significant increases in our long-term sales growth."
