FDA approves Lyrica for spinal pain
NEW YORK — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new indication for a Pfizer drug.
Lyrica (pregabalin) capsules CV now can be used for the management of neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury. The drug received a priority review designation for this new indication as more than 100,000 patients — approximately 40% of the 270,000 patients with spinal cord injury in the United States — suffer from this chronic, complex pain condition.
Lyrica is indicated for use in treating fibromyalgia, diabetic nerve pain, pain after shingles and partial onset seizures in adults with epilepsy. In December 2011, Pfizer released late-stage clinical trial results that indicated that the use of Lyrica produced a "significant" benefit in patients with restless legs syndrome.
“Until now, no FDA approved treatment options were available in the U.S. for people with neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury, a condition which can be extremely disabling,” said Steven Romano, SVP and head of the medicines development group for Pfizer’s global primary care business unit. “The approval of Lyrica for this indication is a significant milestone, exemplifying Pfizer’s commitment to pursue scientific advancements that address unmet medical needs.”
Jewel-Osco helps Chicagoland customers save at pump
CHICAGO — Jewel-Osco is helping Chicagoland shoppers get more value on their everyday grocery purchases through the launch of a new fuel savings program.
My Jewel-Osco Fuel Rewards program allows customers, who use their reward card when shopping at participating Jewel-Osco stores, to be able to earn Fuel Rewards savings, which may be redeemed at local participating Shell stations for fuel savings at the pump. How it works: Consumers need to carry their My Jewel-Osco rewards card and scan it when they check out at the store to earn Fuel Rewards savings. For every $50 spent in qualified purchases at participating Jewel-Osco stores, consumers can earn a savings of 5 cents per gallon on fuel that is redeemable on a single fill-up, up to 20 gallons, at any one of more than 350 local participating Shell stations. Jewel-Osco noted that the Fuel Rewards savings accumulate, so the more customers spend at stores leads to the earning of more Fuel Rewards savings.
The program officially kicks off June 25.
"Jewel-Osco is pleased to be able to offer local consumers the opportunity to save money on fuel," Jewel-Osco director of marketing Melissa Pursley said. "We recognize that today’s consumers are continually looking for increased value, and the My Jewel-Osco Fuel Rewards program provides them with an easy way to save. We encourage everyone in the Chicago area to sign up for a My Jewel-Osco rewards card to start taking advantage of the savings."
