Eos launches new Lip Balm Smooth Sphere
NEW YORK — Personal care brand Eos has announced the launch of its new tangerine medicated anti-bacterial Lip Balm Smooth Sphere.
The medicated lip balm is 95% natural and provides antibacterial protection through the natural active ingredient phenol, the company stated. The lip balm promises to not only help soothe dry lips and prevent the spread of germs, but also alleviate the symptoms of cold sores.
Infused with antioxidants, zinc, vitamins C and E, and moisturizing ingredients shea butter and jojoba oil, the lip balm promises to soften lips while also protecting them.
It is free of petrolatum, parabens and gluten, and is not tested on animals. The smooth sphere packaging is recyclable.
Eos Lip Balm Smooth Spheres, priced at $3.29 each, are available at such retailers as Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid.
Pharmacy Healthcare Solutions, Inc. 968 Perry Hwy Pittsburgh, PA 15237 January 20, 2011 Rob Eder Editor in Chief Drug Store News 425 Park Avenue New York, New York 10022 Dear Mr. Eder, I am concerned that your readers may be misled to believe that they can avoid the flu by using an adorable new lip balm. The Drug Store News article, “Eos launches new Lip Balm Smooth Sphere,” published online on January 18, 2011, states that the company’s new lip balm contains an anti-bacterial ingredient to “help prevent the spread of the flu.” This statement is misleading as the flu is caused by the influenza virus, not bacteria. While Lip Balm Smooth Sphere, Medicated Tangerine flavor, may prevent the spread of bacteria, its active ingredient does nothing to stop the spread of flu. Eos’ product website makes no claim about prevention of flu; only that this lip gloss “helps prevent bacterial contamination” on the lips. Now that flu season is in full swing, it’s important for pharmacists to be able to offer patients proven solutions for preventing the spread of this illness, which include receiving the flu vaccine and using proper hand hygiene. Please revise this article so your readers aren’t led to falsely believe that this lip balm could prevent transmission of the flu. Sincerely, Megan Burley Pharm. D.
