Emdeon expands payment network, builds new St. Louis facility
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A developer of revenue and payment cycle management and clinical information exchange software is expanding its payment network.
Emdeon announced Friday that it would expand the capabilities of the Emdeon Payment Network, a large, automated payment distribution system for the healthcare industry. The expansion includes the recent opening of a new 100,000-sq.-ft. facility in St. Louis dedicated to supporting the network, which currently reaches about 60,000 pharmacies, 500,000 providers, 81,000 dentists, 1,200 hospitals and 300 labs.
"Today’s announcement of our intent to integrate the Simplicity Settlement Services into the Emdeon Payment Network is further evidence of our continued investment in payment solutions," Emdeon EVP payer services Gary Stuart said. "As an established market leader in healthcare payments, Emdeon is best positioned to help payers implement strategic payment solutions designed to eliminate administrative settlement burdens while still offering providers a broad set of options as to how they will be paid."
The company also introduced virtual card services, designed to reduce payment distribution costs and streamline payment processes, and the company said that coupling VCS with Simplicity would provide payers with 1099 reporting, pre-funded virtual card payments, settlement and reconciliation and provider preference-based delivery capabilities. Emdeon is partnering with Echo Health in Simplicity.
Supervalu announces executive search to lead Shoppers banner
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu on Friday announced a leadership change at the company’s Shoppers division, based in Bowie, Md., as current president Bob Bly has decided to leave the company to pursue new career opportunities. VP merchandising Bob Gleeson and VP operations Micky Nye will lead Shoppers on an interim basis while the search for a replacement is underway.
The change is effective immediately, the grocer reported.
“I want to thank Bob for the contributions he made during his time at Shoppers and wish him all the best going forward,” stated Sam Duncan, Supervalu president and CEO. “He helped guide the retail banner through a time of significant change at Supervalu, and his leadership is greatly appreciated," he said. "In the near-term, I’m pleased we have two very capable leaders in Bob Gleeson and Micky Nye able to immediately take over the day-to-day leadership at Shoppers. Both have vast knowledge of the grocery industry and broad experience that will serve Shoppers well through this transition.”
Gleeson and Nye will report to Mark Van Buskirk, EVP merchandising, marketing and retail at Supervalu.
Bly was appointed president of Shoppers in August 2012. Prior to joining Supervalu, he was a VP for Sears.
Giant-Landover promotes nutrition for kids
LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food is revamping a program designed to promote health and wellness among children, the supermarket chain said.
The Ahold USA-owned chain, also known as Giant-Landover to distinguish it from fellow Ahold chain Giant Food Stores of Carlisle, Pa., said it would introduce a newly updated and expanded Passport to Nutrition program to organizations that educate and work with children, including schools, summer camps and scouting groups.
"At Giant, we believe it is part of our responsibility to help customers navigate healthy choices, especially for kids," Giant nutritionist Lisa Coleman said. "We have a long legacy of providing information and helpful programs, from Healthy Ideas to in-store signage, and we’re excited to expand Passport to Nutrition as a free resource for our community."
Passport to Nutrition is aimed at children ages 8 years through 12 years and features workbooks and a teacher guide that provide lessons to inspire kids to make small changes in their everyday lives to improve health. Information includes who to build a balanced plate using the Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate guidelines and reading food labels and understanding portion sizes.
