ECRM appoints Joe Tarnowski to lead content development
SOLON, Ohio — Efficient Collaborative Retail Marketing announced that it has appointed Joseph Tarnowski as VP and chief content officer to lead the development of its content platform.
“Joe’s business media background is perfectly aligned with ECRM’s vision of adding a content component to the existing events and digital platform we’ve developed to facilitate the buying process,” said Greg Farrar, CEO of ECRM. “His knowledge of the retail industry and experience in developing unique and compelling content across media platforms will extend our engagement with retail buyers and suppliers year-round.”
Tarnowski will create a content strategy and platform that provides retail buyers and suppliers information they need to optimize the buying process and will deliver this content to them when and how they want it via various platforms. The content will include research and insights from ECRM Data, the company's business intelligence division.
Tarnowski has more than 20 years of experience in business-to-business media, most recelty with Stagnito Business Information, where he was editor in chief of Progressive Grocer Independent, as well as editor of Progressive Grocer Tech. Tarnowski also produced content for such media brands as Convenience Store News, The Gourmet Retailer, RETAILTECH, and Foodservice Director.

CVS/pharmacy opens its first pharmacy in Washington state
WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy celebrated on Monday its entrance into the Seattle market with the grand opening of a new location in the city of Renton, marking the first CVS/pharmacy in the state of Washington.
"We are pleased to open our first store in Washington State and bring CVS/pharmacy's best-in-class patient-centered medication management programs, wellness services, preventive and chronic disease management, and high quality health, beauty and personal care offerings to the Seattle market," said Helena Foulkes, president of CVS/pharmacy. "As we grow our presence in Seattle, we look forward to helping our new customers on their path to better health."
CVS/pharmacy is the retail division of CVS Caremark, whose operations in Washington include a CarePlus Specialty Pharmacy in Seattle, two Coram ambulatory specialty infusion sites in Seattle and Spokane Valley and several CVS Caremark Pharmacy Services PBM clients. With the addition of its retail locations in Seattle, CVS Caremark can now offer the market its full range of integrated pharmacy programs and services.
Among those joining CVS/pharmacy officials for the grand opening celebration in Renton, Wash., were Bob Crittenden, senior health policy advisor to Gov. Jay Inslee; State Reps. Eric Pettigrew and Steve Bergquist; and Renton mayor Denis Law.
During the grand opening event, CVS/pharmacy made a $10,000 donation to Renton's Community Activity Nutrition Network, which works to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity through the promotion of healthy activities and nutrition. The donation will be used to support the development of a community garden that will provide healthy eating choices for Renton's low income and senior populations.
In addition to the new store in Renton, Wash., the company will open two more Seattle-area stores this year and will open its first store in the city of Seattle next summer. With its entrance into Seattle, CVS/pharmacy now has a presence in all 20 top drug store markets in the United States.
Also, as part of CVS/pharmacy's announcement earlier this year that all of its stores will stop selling tobacco products by this October, all new stores that have opened since April do not carry tobacco, making its Renton, Wash., store one the first CVS/pharmacy locations to be tobacco-free.
Mars opens first M&M’s World in Shanghai
Shanghai, China — Shanghai got a little sweeter recently as the first M&M’s World in Asia opened on East Nanjing Road, joining the city’s main shopping thoroughfare.
The 1,722-sq.-ft retail space sells M&M’s brand apparel and gifts, as well as the namesake candy in peanut, milk chocolate and almond in 22 colors. The location is the fifth M&M’s World worldwide.
"We are thrilled to add M&M'S World Shanghai store to our global store footprint. Shanghai is the ideal city for the first M&M'S World store in Asia, due to the city's truly global feel and appeal," Mars Retail Group GM Brian Schiegg said. "The location in the Brilliance Shimao International Plaza made perfect sense for the world's largest chocolate brand, since East Nanjing Road is one of the busiest pedestrian streets in China and a highly visited tourist destination in Shanghai.”
Several parts of the store invoke Chinese history and culture, like the Yellow Panda, which makes the yellow M&M into a panda bear, and the great wall of chocolate, which is a wall lined with M&M dispensers. Other M&M’s characters are dressed as Chinese warriors.
