Duracell rolls out new charging solutions

BETHEL, Conn. — Duracell has unveiled new portable power lines that address the growing use of USB electronic devices.

Duracell’s five new portable power inverters and two new laptop power adapters give on-the-go customers more efficient options to charge their devices. The inverters convert the 12-volt DC power from vehicle cigarette outlets into 120-volt AC and 5-Volt USB power, while the laptop adapters are designed to use 90% less energy than comparable adapters and work on all popular laptop models, the company said.

Duracell also said the inverters and adapters will feature eco-friendly packaging.

The new lineup of Duracell portable power inverters and laptop power adapters will be available in spring 2011 with a suggested retail price of $29.99 to $59.99, and will feature a three-year warranty.

Janel Haugarth appointed Supervalu’s EVP merchandising, logistics

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Friday named Janel Haugarth, 55, EVP merchandising and logistics.

“Steve Jungmann, who had held the position of EVP merchandising, will leave the company effective immediately,” Supervalu stated.

In her new role, Haugarth will be responsible for all merchandising activities across the company’s traditional retail and independent retail businesses. The move consolidates the leadership of all of the company’s merchandising activities, with the exception of Save-A-Lot, under the leadership of a single EVP, Supervalu noted.

Formerly EVP, president and COO of the company’s supply chain services organization, Haugarth will continue to oversee all of the company’s supply chain and logistics operations, and will report directly to Craig Herkert, CEO and president of Supervalu.

“By consolidating responsibility of our merchandising activities under Janel’s leadership, we will accelerate progress on our company’s business transformation,” Herkert said. “This new structure will enable us to better leverage our scale with the supplier community and meet our customers’ needs with the right products at the right time and at the right price."

"Janel is a proven industry leader, with a strong track record for delivering results,” Herkert added. “[Her] experience working closely with both suppliers and independent retailers gives her a unique point of view in our industry.”

Polaroid goes Gaga with Grey Label

LAS VEGAS — Polaroid and its creative director, pop sensation Lady Gaga, unveiled a new line that is truly expressive of Lady Gaga’s artistic vision.

The Polaroid Grey Label initially will feature a trio of products that include:

  • The GL10 instant mobile printer, available in May at a retail price of $149.99, gives users the instant printing experience with Polaroid’s Zink Zero Ink technology, making photo printing mess-free. Polaroid also will roll out Zink photo paper for the printer as well;

  • Polaroid’s GL30 instant digital camera, a departure from traditional Polaroid cameras, is designed for longevity and gives users the option to select a number of filters and borders to create truly original images that instantly fit in the palm of a hand. The digital camera will be available later this year, with a price to be determined; and

  • The GL20 camera glasses, in which users instantly can capture or upload photos with the built-in camera and then display the images on the glasses’ LCD screens for others to see. The camera glasses will be available later this year, with a price to be determined.

The products were unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
