Drew Brees signs on as ‘VapoDad’ for Vicks

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble on Monday announced that NFL quarterback Drew Brees will be the first-ever "VapoDad" representing Vicks VapoRub.

Appearing alongside his son Baylen, Brees will be seen in television and print advertisements for VapoRub this upcoming cold and flu season.

Historically, VapoRub has only featured women as the primary caregiver in its advertisements. With fathers becoming increasingly involved in the upbringing of their children, Vicks felt it was important to feature its first "VapoDad."

"Vicks believes that both mothers and fathers play an equally important role in the health of the family unit," Vicks North America brand manager Andy Cipra said. "Drew Brees is known for his close relationship with his family, which made the decision to make Brees the first VapoDad a natural one."

Drew Brees first worked with the brand with advertisements for Vicks DayQuil and NyQuil. The VapoRub spots will differ by providing a more family-focused message, highlighting the nurturing role parents play in their children’s lives.

"I’m truly honored to become the first-ever Vicks VapoDad," Brees said. "My son Baylen and I had the opportunity to shoot this commercial together, which makes this opportunity that more special for me."

Pharmavite breaks ground on Alabama facility

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Pharmavite on Monday broke ground on the company’s new manufacturing and packaging facility in Opelika, Ala. Representatives from Pharmavite were joined by Alabama governor Robert Bentley, Alabama speaker Mike Hubbard, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers and local community and business leaders.

“We are honored to officially join the Opelika and greater Alabama community, and we’re looking forward to accomplishing many great things together,” stated Mark Walsh, Pharmavite COO. “This new facility represents a significant step in the growth of Pharmavite and will serve as a model manufacturing facility for the entire vitamin and supplement industry.”

The 330,000-sq.-ft. facility, which will produce Nature Made soft gels and tablets, supports Pharmavite’s strategy to capitalize on the growing global consumer trends on health and wellness. Pharmavite initially will invest approximately $76.5 million in capital during the first year, and, based on future growth, expects to add to this investment over the coming years.

“Today’s groundbreaking is the beginning of a bright future for Pharmavite in Opelika. Pharmavite has an excellent reputation worldwide, and I am proud to say they will now be one of Alabama’s latest corporate citizens,” Bentley said. “The jobs and investment Pharmavite is making in Alabama helps us show the rest of the world that Alabama is a great place to live and do business.”

Once operational in early 2013, the facility is expected to employ approximately 280 employees in the first year of operation. A few managerial positions are expected to be filled this year; the recruiting for the majority of positions will begin in June 2012.

Hope Paige Medical launches TextID medical jewelry

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Hope Paige Medical has introduced a new line of short message, service-enabled medical jewelry that is designed to quickly provide patients’ medical information via text message.

TextID uses SMS technology to relay life-saving information about a patient, Hope Paige Medical said. How it works: emergency medical personnel will be able to access a patient’s self-created emergency profile — which can be created online for $12 for the first year of membership (and $10 each year thereafter) — which provides detailed medical information, such as current medications, emergency contacts, etc., which can be accessed by text messaging their unique personal identification number, which is engraved on each patients’ customized medical ID jewelry, to 5-10-20.

Users of TextID medical jewelry can create their personal medical profile in minutes, which can include up to 10 emergency contacts, and can be updated at any time from any computer or smartphone at no additional charge, the company said.

TextID is powered by ICEdot, an emergency identification and notification service that enables people to store their medical and personal information in a secure online account.
