Dr. Fresh helps children get cleaner teeth with new pink Barbie rotary toothbrush

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Dr. Fresh has announced the introduction of its new pink Barbie rotary toothbrush, the newest cousin to the manufacturer’s popular FireFly light-up toothbrush.

The battery-powered toothbrush incorporates Dr. Fresh’s signature FireFly light-up timer — a colorful light that, when activated with the touch of a button, blinks for two minutes to keep children entertained and brushing for the appropriate length of time. In addition, its dual-action rotary vibrations are designed to remove more plaque than a manual toothbrush.


The brush also has several kid-friendly features including a right-sized head and handle, and soft, rounded bristles that won’t cut or irritate children’s gums.

The Barbie battery powered rotary toothbrush retails for $5.99 to $7.99 and is available at Walgreens and H-E-B.

NYX Professional Makeup appoints new CEO

LOS ANGELES — NYX Professional Makeup has tapped industry veteran Scott Friedman as CEO. Friedman succeeds Toni Ko, who will transition to the role of founder and chief creative director.

NYX Professional Makeup is a makeup line available at major retailers across 40 countries, as well as more than 10,000 beauty supply stores in the United States and freestanding stores in Japan, Brazil and Switzerland.

“We’re very excited that Scott has joined NYX.  He is a seasoned CEO with a sterling reputation for improving operational efficiencies and managing growth.  We’re looking forward to his leadership and to accelerating our brand’s move to the next level of international exposure,” Ko said.

Prior to joining NYX, Friedman was CEO of Allegro, a manufacturer of travel and storage accessories, which sold to Conair in 2007. Under his watch, Allegro received the “Target Partner Award of Excellence” in both 2007 and 2009, as well as similar awards from other retailers.

FDA issues warning letter to maker of Lazy Cakes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration last week issued a warning letter to Terry Harris of HBB — makers of the controversial Lazy Larry and Lazy Cakes melatonin-spiked brownies — alerting Harris that HBB’s products are adulterated with an unapproved food additive.

"Your ‘Lazy Larry’ product is represented for use as a conventional food, and accordingly is not a dietary supplement," the warning letter read. "Your use of the term ‘dietary supplement’ in the statement of your identity and your use of a ‘Supplement Facts’ panel for nutrition labeling do not make your product a dietary supplement."

There is no food additive regulation that authorizes the use of melatonin, the agency added.
