DPS discloses Q2 earnings
PLANO, Texas Dr Pepper Snapple Group reported earnings per share of 60 cents for the second quarter, up from 59 cents in the year-ago period.
The company, however, had fewer shares outstanding in the latest quarter.
Net sales increased 2% reflecting sales volume growth, and revenue also rose with the help of DPS’ licensing agreements with PepsiCo, the company said. Dr Pepper also added that its carbonated soda volume rose 2%, although its "Core 4" brands –– 7UP, Sunkist soda, A&W and Canada Dry –– declined 1%. In its noncarbonated beverage sector, Hawaiian Punch volume grew 7%, Snapple grew 10% and Mott’s grew 3%.
Full-year 2010 diluted earnings per share are expected to be $2.35 to $2.43.
"Our portfolio of CSDs and value juices continued to post solid volume and share gains, further demonstrating their value to consumers. … We remain focused on delivering on our commitments for 2010, while building solid plans for 2011 and beyond," DPS president and CEO Larry Young said.
Dream Water makes its way to Walgreens
NEW YORK Dream Water once again is expanding its retail distribution.
The beverage maker announced that less than one year after initially launching in Duane Reade stores, its 2.5-oz. Dream Water shot will be available at Walgreens locations nationwide. In addition to Walgreens, Dream Water also is available in select Walmart stores, tri-state area Kmart and Harmon stores, and New York-based GNC and Duane Reade stores.
Dream Water is a relaxation water that helps consumers fall asleep.
"Just 10 months into our launch, Dream Water is resonating with both consumers and retailers alike. This positive response shows the relevance of our product in the marketplace, as Dream Water helps to fill a significant void in the lives of millions of Americans who suffer from sleep issues," said Adam Platzner, chief marketing officer of Dream Products.

To yogurt, it’s all Greek
MINNEAPOLIS —Americans have embraced Greek yogurt, and more brands of the thick, creamy yogurt are being included in dairy cases. General Mills’ Yoplait brand is one of the latest—and more affordable—entries.
Yoplait’s Greek version is available in 6-oz. servings in four flavors: plain, honey vanilla, strawberry and blueberry. Each serving of Yoplait Greek contains 12 g of protein and 0 g of fat.
Yoplait is priced significantly below other products on the market. While some competing brands retail for $1.69, Yoplait Greek has a suggested retail price of $1.19. With a lower-priced option, even more consumers are likely to switch over to Greek yogurt.
