CVS/pharmacy expands ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program
WOONSOCKET, R.I. — In honor of National Diabetes Month in November, CVS/pharmacy is looking to further meet the healthcare needs of those people living with diabetes by expanding its ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program with new support and savings.
In addition to the special savings and rewards that members receive just for signing up, the program now offers more than $130 in savings from Diabetes Health magazine and a variety of new instant and ongoing savings. CVS/pharmacy is also hosting free glucose screenings during National Diabetes Month in November.
"Every 17 seconds, another American is diagnosed with diabetes," stated Papatya Tankut, VP of pharmacy affairs at CVS/pharmacy. "CVS/pharmacy is committed to being a resource for patients dealing with a new diagnosis or looking for ways to cut health costs without sacrificing care. Our pharmacists and our diabetes support programs are resources that patients can turn to for information and advice."
CVS/pharmacy’s support programs for people living with diabetes and caregivers include:
- Diabetes Health magazine: This magazine comes with $130 in savings from brand partners whose diabetic supplies and products are available at CVS/pharmacy (valid through Dec. 31, 2012), as well as health tips, recipes and advice from diabetes experts. Consumers can download a copy at CVS.com/diabetes;
- Instant and ongoing savings: All members who sign up for the ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program and have an ExtraCare card with an email on file will receive a $5 coupon in their inbox (valid through Dec. 31, 2012). Once enrolled, shoppers will continue to receive exclusive, members-only tips, recipes and savings year-round through in-store coupons and a monthly e-newsletter; and
- Free glucose screenings: Through the Project Health wellness program, CVS/pharmacy will offer free glucose screenings at select stores in 10 of the largest U.S. cities during November. Participants will have access to professional consultations and referrals from nurse practitioners and CVS pharmacists. They will also receive a $5 coupon. Free diabetes screenings are also available at MinuteClinic.

Since its launch in 2010, the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program has helped more than 2 million members save money and better manage the disease. The program is free and open to all members of the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare savings and rewards program; cardholders can sign up at CVS.com/diabetes. Once enrolled, patients and caregivers can earn ExtraBucks Rewards on more than 100 products used to manage diabetes, including testing supplies, glucose test strips and glucose meters. In addition to exclusive savings, members also have access to a variety of resources, including an "Ask Our Pharmacist" section, additional offers, videos and recipes addressing their specific lifestyle needs.
In addition to earning ExtraBucks Rewards that can be spent on most items in the store, ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes members receive special offers and discounts on their receipts and at the in-store ExtraCare Coupon Center.

Kmart, Sears stores stock emergency supplies ahead of ‘Frankenstorm’
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Sears Holdings said it was “rushing” emergency supplies to stores on the East Coast ahead of Hurricane Sandy.
The company, which operates the Sears and Kmart chains, said it would stock up on portable generators, chainsaws, gasoline cans, flashlights and other equipment at stores from North Carolina to Maine.
Sandy, though a nominally low-category hurricane, has the potential to produce up to a foot of rain and storm surges up to 11 feet, according to weather forecasts, and it is predicted to become particularly dangerous as it is expected to converge with a storm system known as a mid-latitude trough some time on Monday.

Downy Unstopables offers consumers chance at TV spot with video contest
CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble’s Downy Unstopables brand is giving Americans their chance at "12 Seconds to Fame" with a contest that asks consumers, "How fresh are you?"
Downy Unstopables — an in-wash scent booster that keeps laundry fresh for up to 12 weeks out of storage — launched the contest on Oct. 25, and consumers have until Nov. 23 to upload their 12-second videos creatively revealing their freshest act, look or moves. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges based on personality, creativity and humor, and will be featured in a Downy live commercial to air in December on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Consumers can either enter through specially marked "12 Seconds to Fame" video kiosks — located in Los Angeles at The Grove, Topanga Mall and Disneyland; in Houston at the Houston Galleria; and in New York at the Smith Haven Mall or the Westchester Mall — or online through Downy’s YouTube page, YouTube.com/Downy.
“Since the product launched, Downy Unstopables has been giving clothes and linens a freshness that is feisty and fun,” said Carolina Rogoll, Downy’s brand manager. “Now, Downy is excited to see just how feisty people across America can be when they’re given the opportunity to make a name for themselves on one of late-night’s freshest shows.”
Downy kicked off the contest on Oct. 27 with a special event at The Grove in Los Angeles, where Mario Lopez — host of "Extra" — demonstrated how to use the kiosk and shared his own "12 Seconds to Fame" video. Attendees enjoyed a DJ’s music, samples of Downy Unstopables, photo opps, interactive displays and giveaways.
