BY Antoinette Alexander

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark was honored on Wednesday by the National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit association of large U.S. employers, for its commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy work environment and encouraging colleagues and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles, the retailer stated.

CVS Caremark was among 63 U.S. employers that received the 2014 "Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles" award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being. CVS Caremark received a gold award for its WellRewards employee wellness program. This marks the sixth year CVS Caremark has received an award for its employee health and wellness initiatives.

"As a pharmacy innovation company that is helping people on their path to better health, CVS Caremark believes that wellness is as important for our colleagues as it is for our patients and customers," stated Lisa Bisaccia, SVP and chief human resources officer for CVS Caremark. "That’s why we have invested in resources that encourage our colleagues to embrace their health and armed them with tools that help them get and stay healthy."

CVS Caremark’s WellRewards program aims to help colleagues improve their well-being with a host of programs including preventive screenings, flu shots, smoking cessation, weight management, health coaching, health management for chronic and rare conditions, EAP life services, and maternity management. CVS Caremark offers team-based walking programs and healthy dining options in campus cafeterias. In addition, in 2013, the company took its commitment to colleagues’ health a step further and made all corporate campuses tobacco-free.

"We are very pleased to honor CVS Caremark for its dedication to providing programs that encourage wellness and healthy lifestyles for their employees and families," stated Brian Marcotte, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health. "CVS Caremark is among an elite group of organizations that are leading the way to promote healthy workplaces and lifestyles. We congratulate them on receiving this award."

Winners of the "Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles" awards were honored in one of two categories: platinum, for exemplary workplace well-being programs, cultures and results; or gold, for creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees in their lifestyle and behavior changes.

As a retired CVS employee, I can assure you that the mental or physical health of it's employees is NOT a primary concern of CVS.
