BY Michael Johnsen

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Adapt Pharma Canada, the makers of Narcan Spray 4mg, on Tuesday announced that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services have taken steps to provide access to naloxone through public health centers, pharmacies and correctional facilities.

At an event held at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Toronto, Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Marie-France Lalonde, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, discussed the severity of the opioid crisis in Ontario and its impact on the healthcare system, and drew awareness to the availability of naloxone at free sites in over 200 cities in Ontario.

"We applaud the Ontario government for taking the necessary steps to ensure Ontarians have access to emergency naloxone," stated David Renwick, general manager, Adapt Pharma Canada. "Narcan Nasal Spray is just is one component in addressing the opioid crisis. We look forward to working with the Ontario government to get naloxone to those who need it most."

Narcan Nasal Spray has been available in Canada since July 6, 2016, when the federal health minister executed an Interim Order for the immediate importing and sale of Narcan Nasal Spray. In October of the same year, the treatment was approved to be sold without a prescription.

NPA opens nominations for board

BY Michael Johnsen

WASHINGTON – The Natural Products Association on Tuesday opened nominations for its board of directors. The recent association bylaws change, approved by the membership, reduces the size of the board to nine members.

"Recent changes have ensured NPA is stronger and better positioned to serve its members than at any point during the association's history," stated Dan Fabricant, CEO and executive director, NPA. Open positions include board chair, vice chair, treasurer, secretary, three supplier seats and two retailer seats.

Nominations must be submitted no later than April 21. The election will be conducted by electronic voting and mail through a third-party accountant. Election results will be announced in June after the third-party accountants tally the vote and certify the election results.
