Clif Kid boosts Zbar Crispy line with new flavor

EMERYVILLE, Calif. — Clif Bar has expanded its Zbar Crispy line with a new cookies ‘n cream flavor.

The USDA-certified organic bar, made with 8 g of organic whole grains and vitamins and minerals — calcium, iron, zinc and vitamin D, does not contain artificial flavors or colors, sweeteners or preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, trans fat or ingredients sourced from GMOs. It joins other kid-friendly Zbar Crispy flavors, including chocolate, chocolate chip and peanut butter.

"At Clif Kid, we want to make parents, jobs easier by providing nutritious and tasty snacks their kids will love,” Clif Kid brand director Jennifer Yun said. "Zbar Crispy cookies ‘n cream is a yummy new addition that delivers organic and wholesome ingredients in a favorite classic flavor."

Zbar Crispy cookies ‘n cream now is available for a suggested retail price of 89 cents per bar and $4.49 per 6-count box.

Safeway kicks off annual prostate cancer awareness campaign

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway and its charitable arm have launched their annual prostate cancer awareness campaign this month.

Safeway and the Safeway Foundation said the campaign, which is in its 12th year, is designed to raise funds and increase awareness for the fight against the disease, which currently affects more than 2 million American men and remains the second-leading cause of cancer death for men in the United States. New for this year’s campaign is a promotion in partnership with Stand Up 2 Cancer — a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation — and actress Angie Harmon, star of TNT’s original drama series, "Rizzoli & Isles," who now is appearing in public service ads supporting cancer research. The PSA’s highlight a limited-edition, reusable shopping bag, embossed with the words, "It starts with a wish; it can end with a cure." The bag is available for purchase at all Safeway locations in the United States, including Vons, Pavilions, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Dominick’s and Carrs stores, as well as online at Safewayfoundation.org.

To date, Safeway and The Safeway Foundation have raised more than $68 million for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world’s largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research.

Carex Health Brands broadens reach with new acquisition

NORWELL, Mass. — Carex Health Brands has established its operations in Canada with the acquisition of a Nova Scotia-based leader in the lifting seat and light therapy markets.

Carex confirmed its acquisition of Uplift Technologies, a company which touts a portfolio that includes Uplift and Daylight brands.

"We were impressed with the innovative nature of the Uplift Technologies products," Carex president Matt McElduff said. "The Uplift lifting seat and light therapy products are an obvious extension for our category leading Carex brand. By leveraging our extensive sales and logistics network, we expect to have an immediate impact on the sales of the Uplift Technologies’ products. We plan to add the brand’s existing lineup to our current broad base of distribution while continuing to innovate and expand its offerings under the Carex brand."
