Clif Bar will sponsor Tour de France team
BERKELEY, Calif. Clif Bar on Tuesday announced it would help sponsor Team Garmin-Chipotle, presented by H30, one of two American cycling teams invited to this year’s Tour de France.
Team Garmin-Chipotle has a reputation for competing drug-free in a sport that’s been tainted by steroid scandals. To help foster that reputation, each of the team’s 25 riders will undergo combined voluntary testing at least 700 times throughout the 2008 season; 20 times the number of tests that most professional cyclists are subject to annually.
“Team Garmin-Chipotle is an example not just in cycling but for all amateur and professional sports, that athletes can achieve success, ethically,” stated Jonathan Vaughters, director sportif for Team Garmin-Chipotle. “Clif Bar natural and organic products work hard and work well with the body to help us train harder, recover faster and perform better.”
“We’re seeing a real shift in the state of sport, with athletes looking for products that can deliver performance benefits through natural means,” stated Dylan Seguin, Team Clif Bar’s athlete experience manager. “Athletes are finding that natural sports nutrition works as well or better than synthetic and artificial supplements, and is better for the body, both in the short- and long-term.”
The 95th Tour de France runs July 5-27, 2008, and is made up of 21 stages covering 2,175 miles.
GSK celebrates alli anniversary with donation to Dress for Success Worldwide
PITTSBURGH GlaxoSmithKline on Tuesday celebrated its one-year anniversary of the launch of the over-the-counter weight loss remedy alli with a $75,000 donation to Dress for Success Worldwide.
Dress for Success Worldwide (www.dressforsuccess.org) is an international, non-profit organization that provides disadvantaged women with professional clothing, career development tools and a network of support.
In addition to the cash donation, female alli users are urged to donate their nearly new, plus-sized (size 14 and above) business attire to Dress for Success and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. Also, because the organization needs more than donated clothing, GSK Consumer Healthcare is asking alli users to donate time and resources to their local Dress for Success affiliate.
“Looking good and feeling good go hand-in-hand, and that’s why alli is supporting Dress for Success with a financial donation, clothing donation and volunteers,” stated Karen Scollick, vice president weight control at GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare.
GlaxoSmithKline also released a new book titled “We Lost It,” that’s dedicated to telling real-life stories of people who have lost weight on the alli program, how they did it, what they’ve learned and how it has impacted their life. Several alli users featured in the book were on hand Tuesday in New York for a chance to have a “little black dress” designed for them by Laura Bennett and Mychael Knight, both former Project Runway finalists. And a featured male alli user was styled by event emcee, Jai Rodriguez, formerly of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and currently seen on the Style Network’s Ultimate Style.
WatchDog’s Diabetes Healthy snack bars available in Ralph’s
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. WatchDog Nutrition on Tuesday announced the availability of its new diabetic-friendly snack bars in more than 200 south California Ralph’s grocery stores.
“Ralph’s is an ideal partner for WatchDog Nutrition’s line of functional foods and the first of several retail chains that you’ll be able to buy them in,” stated Rajeev Saggar, WatchDog chief executive officer. “Demand for snack foods properly formulated for whole health is increasing, and the addition of WatchDog bars to Ralph’s adult nutrition products section magnifies their commitment to providing convenient, healthy, great tasting foods.”
WatchDog’s food bars are both low in simple sugars and glycemic index, and are fortified with several vitamins and minerals.
In addition to the Heart Healthy and Diabetes Healthy snack bars, WatchDog Nutrition plans to introduce a Joint Healthy bar this summer and also has plans to introduce a children’s snack bar and a line of healthy beverages.
