Bi-Lo Holding to transition Winn-Dixie distribution centers to wholesaler partner C&S

BY Michael Johnsen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bi-Lo Holding, parent company of Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, on Tuesday announced a long-term agreement under which Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers will provide warehouse, transportation and most procurement services for all 480 Winn-Dixie stores and continue providing services to all 206 Bi-Lo stores.

“We believe this deal will allow us to leverage the experience and buying power of C&S so that we can continue to reinvest in our company and focus on selling great products at a good value to our customers,” stated Randall Onstead, president and CEO of Bi-Lo Holding.

By the end of the year, Winn-Dixie’s six distribution centers and the functions that support them, will be transitioned.

“We thank our Winn-Dixie distribution center associates for their contributions over the years,” added Onstead. “While we are saying goodbye to them as part of the Winn-Dixie family, we are very pleased that this transition provides them with continued employment. In addition, they will provide C&S with the knowledge and experience needed for a smooth transition."

C&S has provided procurement, warehouse and transportation services for Bi-Lo since 2005.

Boston-area shoppers contribute $650,000 to marathon victims through CVS/pharmacy

BY Michael Johnsen

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark on Tuesday announced that a month-long, in-store fundraising campaign at CVS/pharmacy locations throughout the Boston area raised more than $650,000 in donations from customers to The One Fund Boston, which was established by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to raise money for victims and families who were affected by the attack on the Boston Marathon.

The in-store donation campaign at more than 260 Boston-area CVS/pharmacy stores ran from April 19 to May 11, during which customers could add $1, $3 or an amount of their choice to their purchase at the register. This fundraising follows a $100,000 donation to The One Fund Boston made by the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, the private foundation of CVS Caremark.

"We sincerely thank all of our Boston customers who supported our in-store campaign for The One Fund Boston and generously made a donation to help victims and families recover from this tragedy," stated Larry Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Caremark. "I also want to thank our colleagues who responded quickly to launch this fundraising campaign within a few days of the Boston Marathon."

The One Fund Boston continues to accept online donations from the public at OneFundBoston.org.

Natural Squelch spray eliminates odors on skin, hair, clothes

BY Jason Owen

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A new all-natural spray promises to not only cover up unwanted smells, but also eliminate them at the source, the company stated this week.

Squelch is an all-natural, non-toxic spray that is odorless. It is safe to use on skin, hair, clothes or any other source that may trap odors. Squelch also is hypoallergenic, does not stain or fade clothes and is environmentally friendly.

According to the company, odors can come from a variety of sources. Virtually all of these sources have common carbon molecule bonds that can cause odors. Squelch works by breaking apart these carbon bonds to eliminate the source of the odor, not just mask it, with its OdorBreak Technology.

Squelch is made with water, vegetable-based fatty acid, soybean oil, corn oil, sodium lauryl sulfate and other natural extracts. It comes in a diminutive, cylindrical tube ideal for portable use after the gym or work, or for use in the car and on the go.

Squelch will soon be available at retailers nationwide and is currently available on the company’s website. It can be purchased individually or in quantities of three, six and 12. Squelch is made in the United States.
