Anna’s Thins to debut new packaging

SAN FRANCISCO — Lotus Bakeries said that the Anna’s Thins cookies brand will show off a new look this month.

The company said that Anna’s Thins packaging, designed by Turner Duckworth, now features a refined and restored logo and new photography to underscore the cookies’ flavors. The new packaging will be used for all four flavors in the line, including ginger thins, almond thins, orange thins and chocolate mint thins. To celebrate the new packaging, Lotus Bakeries and Turner Duckworth have designed a special collector’s edition Anna’s tin, which will be included for a limited-time in all Anna’s Thins three-package trays at retailers nationwide.

“We are excited to announce the launch of the new Anna’s Thins packaging,” Lotus Bakeries North America executive president Marco de Leeuw said. “The Turner Duckworth design team has done an excellent job of honoring — yet energizing — the look and feel of the original Anna’s Thins, which many have grown to know and love.”

Ro*Tel turns up heat with new sauce

OMAHA, Neb. — ConAgra Foods brand Ro*Tel has introduced a new canned tomato sauce.

Ro*Tel said its zesty tomato and green chili sauce adds spicy flavor to any meal, especially Tex/Mex recipes. The sauce is available in original and mild varieties.

Ro*Tel’s zesty tomato and green chili sauce is available in an 8-oz. can for a suggested retail price of 69 cents and will be sold at select grocery chains and mass retailers nationwide.

Seasonal sales sweeten category

Seasonal candy powers the category. Last year, chocolate and nonchocolate seasonal sales were strong for Valentine’s Day and Easter. Data from the National Confectioners Association showed that slight markdowns taken one week before the holiday can generate a significant spike in sales and leave retailers with less product to move at higher markdowns after the holiday.

Since licensed merchandise is a big part of the profitable seasonal category, retailers need a mix that appeals to both genders.
