Amazon trials upgrade to Prime service with Los Angeles fresh-food delivery

BY Alaric DeArment

NEW YORK — Amazon is giving a free trial of its fresh-food delivery service to premium customers in the Los Angeles area, according to published reports.

The Seattle Times reported that the online retailer would offer a free, 90-day trial to AmazonPrime members in several parts of Los Angeles of same-day and early-morning delivery, allowing them to receive items like fresh foods, in addition to toys, electronics and half a million other items. The grocery delivery service has been in testing in Seattle for almost six years.

The new service is a trial of Prime Fresh, an upgrade to the existing AmazonPrime service. Currently, AmazonPrime members pay $79 per year, and after 90 days, those participating in the trial will be invited to upgrade to Prime Fresh, which will cost $299 per year. According to analysts cited by the Times, Amazon is planning to expand Prime Fresh to San Francisco later this year and to about a dozen other markets next year.

New system designed to help ACOs engage patients

YARDLEY, Pa. – Krames StayWell has introduced a set of products for accountable care organizations that includes marketing and patient-engagement tools and a new system for ACO member health management.

The company announced the launch of ACO 360, saying it was designed to help ACO patients take more responsibility for their own care with a collection of health outreach, acute care and population management products that support a growing number of government quality requirements for ACOs participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program.

Transforming nursing ed to meet new clinical demands

BY Antoinette Alexander

Eager to embark on ways to strengthen the relationship between graduate nursing education and nursing practice in emerging models of care delivery, a select group of leaders in both graduate nursing education and nursing practice came together during RCEC 2013 to partake in a historic roundtable discussion.

The National League for Nursing, in collaboration with the Convenient Care Association, sponsored the roundtable aimed at sparking transformative strategies to meet the need for increased numbers of advanced practice nurses to staff new models of healthcare delivery, including convenient care clinics and telehealth.

“This is a historic endeavor and a level of collaboration that is unseen and unheard of, and I’m so excited about it. The deans and the representatives of the universities coming together with people in practice — it is all about how do we take education and hook it and bridge it to practice to make sure we are serving the needs of the community and the patients, and that is what’s happening here today,” said Beverly Malone, CEO of the National League of Nursing.

A roundtable at RCEC enabled leaders in nursing practice and education  to discuss current healthcare needs.

“I believe this is a historic meeting. Bringing two major groups of nursing leaders together who care deeply about transforming nursing education in support of advancing our nation’s health is an exciting opportunity for our professionals,” said Angela Patterson, chief nurse practitioner officer for CVS Caremark’s MinuteClinic.

Sandy Ryan, chief nurse practitioner officer and clinical advocate for Walgreens’ Take Care Health Systems, said: “As we look to transform the delivery of health care, we need to think differently and transform clinical education to meet the needs of patients nationally. I am honored, as a nurse leader in the retail clinic industry, to be involved in a historic meeting with educational leaders in nursing to strategize ways to increase the number of advanced practice nurses.”

Echoing the sentiment, Tine Hansen-Turton, executive director of the CCA, said: “This is a historic meeting. The industry, the nurse leaders and the universities coming together to really talk and strategize around how we, together, build a work force that’s really trained and educated in this model of care, but also how do we partner to assure that we have clinical sites, we have faculty members working on both sides and that we, together, can help transform the healthcare system.”
