Alliance Boots distributes equity interest in Galenica

BERN, Switzerland — Alliance Boots on Friday announced that it has distributed its equity interest in Galenica, its Swiss associate, to the group’s ultimate parent company, AB Acquisitions Holdings, in accordance with the terms of the agreement with Walgreens reached last year.

Galenica continues as an associate of AB Acquisitions Holdings. Stefano Pessina, executive chairman of Alliance Boots, continues as non-executive director of Galenica while Etienne Jornod, executive chairman of Galenica, stays as a non-executive director of Alliance Boots.

Galenica is a diversified group active throughout the healthcare market which, among other activities, develops, manufactures and markets pharmaceutical products, runs pharmacies, provides logistical and database services and sets up networks. The Galenica Group enjoys a leading position in all its business sectors — Pharma, Logistics, Retail and HealthCare Information. A large part of the group’s income is generated by international operations.

OTC manufacturer takes BestCo as its new moniker

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — BestCo is the new name for BestSweet, a manufacturer, developer and marketer of consumer healthcare products. 

The former moniker BestSweet was so named due to the company’s origins as a candy manufacturer. BestCo has since evolved to become one of the largest suppliers of cough drops, throat drops, soft chews, coated chews and other confectionery-based dosage forms for OTC drug products and dietary supplements, the company stated. 

“While we had long been considered a leader in a range of confectionery categories, our business has transitioned in the past 10 years with the development of dosage forms for active ingredients that we have made more palatable," stated Richard Zulman, BestCo CEO. "We have transitioned into a consumer healthcare and supplement company. So it was time to move on from the BestSweet name."

The name change announcement coincides with the launch of a new BestCo corporate logo, website Bestco.com and an integrated launch campaign.

BestCo started in 1976 in Newark, N.J. 2013 marks its 25th anniversary in Mooresville, N.C., where it operates its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities on a 40-acre campus.

“We believe the new BestCo name and logo signal to customers, employees and suppliers that our company is strong, viable and poised for continued growth in the consumer healthcare industry,” added Zulman.

Fuse Science announces rollout strategy for its energy drops — select Walgreens near PGA tourneys

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. — Fuse Science on Thursday announced extended distribution for its PowerFuse and ElectroFuse energy drops across select Walgreens stores in the Ponte Verde, Fla., market for the Players Championship Tournament. Point-of-purchase displays feature NFL’s Arian Foster and David Ortiz of MLB’s Boston Red Sox. 

The Fuse Science distribution strategy is focused on rolling out product lines within Walgreens locations situated near select PGA tournaments around the country up until, and including, the 2013 U.S. Open in June.

"We are very pleased with the new distribution relationship we have established with Walgreens," stated Brian Tuffin, CEO of Fuse Science. "We’ve been working extremely hard in establishing the right alliances with strong financial terms to ensure the success of the consumer business. We have been very deliberate in our strategy, and continue to make measured progress against our primary objective to build a major national distribution presence for the ‘Powered By Fuse’ brands," he said. "This distribution agreement, and others we expect to announce in the future, reflects a milestone for the retail distribution of our products that we believe will set the stage for the ramp-up of revenue generation and substantial growth of Fuse Science."
