Ajanta Pharma launches risperidone tablets

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Ajanta Pharma USA on Friday announced the launch of risperidone tablets (0.25-mg, 0.5-mg, 1-mg, 2-mg, 3-mg and 4-mg), the generic version of Risperdal. The drug is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Sales of branded and generic risperidone totalled approximately $147 million for the 12 months ending March 2014, according to IMS Health.

Coram CVS/Specialty Infusion Services opens new branch Rx in Richmond, Va

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Coram CVS/specialty infusion services has announced the opening of a new branch pharmacy in Richmond, Va., that will serve the state from Fredericksburg to the North Carolina border, including the Richmond and Norfolk areas.

The new facility offers a number of services, including:

  • Comprehensive offering of infusion therapies, including anti-infective services, parenteral nutrition and enteral nutrition (tube feeding), cardiac/inotropic therapies, immunoglobulins (IVIg and SCIg), Alpha-1 therapies, pain and palliative care services and hydration therapy;
  • A compounding "clean room," which is compliant with USP 797 pharmaceutical compounding standards;
  • Individual patient counseling and education; and
  • Nursing services for in-home infusion care.

"Coram is pleased to build upon our long-standing investment in Virginia with the opening of this new branch," said Rob Allen, president, Coram CVS/specialty infusion services. "We know that infusion care provided in the home or at an alternate site infusion suite can help promote better health and an improved quality of life for patients with complex infusion needs."

In January, CVS Caremark acquired Coram, the specialty infusion services and enteral nutrition business unit of Apria Healthcare Group. Coram is one of the nation’s largest providers of comprehensive infusion services, caring for approximately 165,000 patients annually.
