Ahold appoints chief commercial development officer

AMSTERDAM — Ahold has tapped retail veteran James McCann to serve in the newly created role of chief commercial development officer.

McCann, who most recently served as executive director for Carrefour France and a member of Carrefour’s group executive board, will focus on developing new and innovative ways to serve customer needs, build customer loyalty and broaden Ahold’s offering. He also will be responsible for leading Ahold’s e-commerce initiatives and will strengthen the company’s online business globally.

In addition, McCann will play a key role in expanding the company’s operations in new markets. In these capacities, he will work with the chief operating officers for Ahold Europe and Ahold USA divisions, according to Ahold CEO Dick Boer.

The Ahold supervisory board plans to nominate McCann for appointment to Ahold’s corporate executive board at its annual shareholders meeting next April 17. Until that time, McCann will be an acting member of the corporate executive board.

Ahold’s U.S. division operates such chains as Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover, Giant-Carlisle and Martin’s.

Sanrio, Vandor enter licensing deal for Hello Kitty products

NEW YORK — A new line of Hello Kitty household products are arriving this summer, thanks to a new licensing agreement inked by Sanrio and Vandor.

Through the deal, which is effective immediately, Vandor will produce the collection, which includes such items as eco-friendly shopper totes, as well as ceramic and travel mugs that feature Hello Kitty, a Sanrio brand. The collection will range in price from $2.49 to $9.99.

“Hello Kitty is an evergreen property that has evolved into one of the most unique and identifiable brands of our time,” said Stacey Dobkins, Vandor VP licensing and marketing said. “She’s a perfect addition to our already comprehensive portfolio of high-quality licensed products that have strong appeal and sell-through.”

David Siegel joins Marsh Supermarkets

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets has created a new executive position that will focus on merchandising support, including pricing, space management, corporate brands and business intelligence.

The retailer said that retail veteran David Siegel will be Marsh’s SVP merchandising and marketing strategic initiatives.

Siegel joins the company from Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper.

Marsh operates 72 Marsh Supermarkets, 3 O’Malia’s Food Markets and 22 MainStreet Market stores in Indiana and Ohio.
