Actress Melanie Mayron launches Mayron’s Good Baby skin care line

LOS ANGELES Director, writer and Emmy award-winning actress Melanie Mayron has launched a new natural skin care line called Mayron’s Good Baby.

Before the birth of her children 10 years ago, Mayron approached her chemist father, David, who has more than 45 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, about formulating a natural diaper and barrier cream that was safe enough to use at every diaper change. After the debut of the diaper cream formula, Mayron and her father worked to develop a number of other products that will be released in winter and spring 2009.

“The entire Mayron’s Good Baby natural skin care line is free from synthetic fragrances, paraben, sodium lauryl sulfate and DEA,” Mayron said. “It was a wonderful experience to work with my father on the creation of these natural products.”

Mayron’s career highlights including acting roles in television and films, most recently in “Lipstick Jungle” on NBC. She is also known for the role of “Melissa” in “Thirtysomething.” the award-winning indie film “Girl Friends” Costa Gavras’ “Missing,”and her own “Sticky Fingers,” which she co-produced, co-wrote and starred in. She recently directed episodes of “Tell Me You Love Me” and “In Treatment” on HBO, “90210,” “Lipstick Jungle,” and “Greek,” and the features, “The Babysitter’s Club” and “Slap Her She’s French.”

L’Oreal to lay off 500 U.S. workers

PARIS French beauty company L’Oreal SA is planning to cut 500 jobs in the United States, or 4.7 percent of its U.S. workforce, between now and the middle of 2009, according to published reports.

According to reports, the job cuts are part of its effort to streamline activities and came as little surprise to analysts given the current economic downturn.

“The company is adjusting to a new reality with sales from specialty stores and beauty salon sales in decline,” ING analyst Marco Gulpers, was quoted as saying. Furthermore, slowing travel and hampered perfume sales at duty-free shops and weaker traffic department stores and hurt cosmetic sales, Gulpers noted.

The job cuts are not expected to affect the group’s business in other markets, according to reports.

The news comes several months after the beauty company stated it would close its Sofamo site in Monaco in March 2011 and transfer activities to northern France. The plant makes Helena Rubinstein and Biotherm cosmetic products.

Then in October, the company announced the sale of its Llantrisant site in Wales, which produces shampoo for the U.K. and Western Europe. The company will reportedly shift some production to Western Europe and purchase products from the new owner, Fareva, for the U.K. market.

Fake Bake re-launches self-tanning products in U.S. with new celebrity spokeswoman

LOS ANGELES Fake Bake, a maker of sunless tanning products, has announced a re-launch into the U.S. market and has tapped Princess Tamara Czartoryski as its U.S. brand ambassador.

“I’m thrilled to relaunch this celebrity-favorite brand into the celebrity mecca that is Los Angeles,” said Czartoryski, a sportswoman and model. “I am extremely passionate about bringing these sunless tanning products into this market and introducing this healthier lifestyle to a city that is obsessed with sun and constant summer glow.”

Fake Bake has developed a sunless tanning regime tailored to any individual’s needs and utilizes a recipe of ingredients that are free of parabens, DHA and Erythulose.

The organically based product promises to create the most natural looking tan without the harmful effects of UV rays. The products have two tanning agents as well as a new patent-pending technology that promises to promote a deeper air brush darker tan that lasts up to 50 percent longer. The self-tanning lotion has a cosmetic color guide to assure a streak-free application and personalized to various skin tones. According to the company, the self-tanning products will not turn tanners’ skin orange nor will it streak; it also has no harsh odor due to the fact that it is not chemically based.

In addition, the products utilize anti-cellulite, anti-oxidants, and anti-aging ingredients into the tanning lotions and beauty products, which are called Babe Tools.
