  • Florida power outages down to 1.6 million accounts as relief efforts continue

    KEY WEST, Fla. — Florida Governor Rick Scott and several state agency heads met Friday with local officials in the Florida Keys to discuss recovery efforts after Hurricane Irma as Florida continues to contend with flooding and power outages.

    Flood warnings remain in effect across the state and the current power outage as of noon Friday was at more than 1.6 million accounts, down from a peak of 6.7 million outages reported on Monday.

  • Ahold USA begins search for new Peapod president

    CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA on Friday announced the departure of Jennifer Carr-Smith as president of Peapod, effective Sept. 15. Carr-Smith has decided to resign from the company for another opportunity.

    Walt Lentz, head of supply chain strategy & operations for Peapod, will oversee the operations of Peapod on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named.

  • Ahold Delhaize posts more than $11 billion across two U.S. divisions

    ZAANDAM, the Netherlands — Ahold USA on Monday generated $7 billion in second quarter sales. While comparable to the year-ago period though, those sales were reached with 24 fewer stores. Comparable sales growth for the quarter was up 0.3%.

    The company reported a positive impact on the timing of Easter that was offset by Fourth of July holiday sales and last year's competitive closures in the New York market. At the end of the quarter, Ahold USA announced new price investments in own brands, produce, milk and eggs.

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion is stepping up its digital engagement game.
     
    A banner under Delhaize America, Food Lion launched a mobile app Tuesday. Available to customers across its 10-state footprint, the app streamlines and personalizes the shopping experience.
     
  • Food Lion completes 93-store revamp, hires 1,000 associates

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Ahold-Delhaize’s Food Lion division is set to unveil a new shopping experience for customers in 93 Greensboro, N.C.-area stores with celebrations on Aug. 2. The company has invested $178 million in remodeling the stores, lowering prices and hiring associates, as well as donating to local community efforts 
     
    The company will be giving away $10 gift cards and thermal tote bags to the first 100 customers at the revamped locations following a 7:45 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony. 
     
  • Supermarket Wellness Watch: Jet, Peapod and Whole Foods eye new opportunities

    The food retail industry is reeling from disruption. Consumer preferences are changing so quickly that companies are having trouble keeping up. Industry consolidation is producing out-of-the-box deals, such as Amazon’s recently announced agreement to acquire Whole Foods.
