A modest increase in fourth quarter same store sales at Walmart’s U.S. stores marked a sixth consecutive period of growth and helped the company exceed analysts’ profit targets, but a reduced 2016 sales outlooks caught some investors by surprise.
Many larger employers, including Walmart for example, are contracting health analytic firms to proactively identify and alert employees who are projected to have health concerns, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Drug Channels' Adam Fein projects another slow-growth year for retail clinics in his latest blog. "While clinics sound like an exciting strategy, revenues from in-store clinics are - and will likely remain - a very small share of pharmacy chains' prescription revenues," he wrote. "While 2016 may see little growth, I still expect the number of retail clinics to reach 2,300 to 2,500 locations by 2018." (Drug Channels)
It makes sense that the nation’s top retailer would also play host to the largest one-day health fair. But for Walmart, the scale of its first-ever chainwide wellness and screening event — held last October and appropriately dubbed “America’s Biggest Health Fair” — is only part of the story: It’s backed by long-term commitment and big-scale thinking.
Drug Channels on Thursday released its latest ranking of pharmacies based on total prescription revenues, with Walgreens Boots Alliance the largest of retail pharmacies, followed by CVS Health and Walmart. "We estimate that total revenues of retail, mail and specialty pharmacies reached $364.1 billion in 2015, up 12.1% from 2014," wrote Adam Fein, CEO Drug Channels Institute. "The top tier of dispensing pharmacies ... accounted for about 64% of U.S. prescription dispensing revenues in 2015." (Drug Channels)
