NFI Consumer Products, the makers of BLUE-EMU®, announced the U.S. launch of LIDOCARE™ (4% lidocaine), the first lidocaine patch to be offered on OTC shelves and the only lidocaine patch that is water-free.
A total of 71% of adults did not smoke, 38% ate a healthy diet, 10% had a normal body fat percentage and 46% were sufficiently active. Only 2.7% of all adults had all four healthy lifestyle characteristics, while 16% had three, 37% had two, 34% had one and 11% had none.
The Food and Drug Administration on Monday finalized the creation of the first-ever Patient Engagement Advisory Committee, the Weinberg Group reported. "The committee has been established in order to provide the FDA commissioner with advice regarding complex issues related to medical devices; specifically regarding the regulation of devices and their use by patients," the report noted. "This was done as part of the agency's 'patient-centric' approach, under which FDA is attempting to ensure the needs and experiences of patients are taken into account during the review of medical devices." The Associated Press is reporting that Johnson & Johnson is set to announce two new projects, one aimed at predicting gestational diabetes in pregnant individuals, another looks to identify people who are either at risk of or in early stages of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and treat them. The company, according to the report, is working to develop a way of identifying biomarkers signaling the onset of a disease and a way to make diagnostics tests for certain biomarkers widespread.
