Supervalu, the owner of Cub Foods, along with four Twin Cities-based independent grocery retailers, on Wednesday announced they had each entered into definitive agreements to acquire 18 Rainbow Foods grocery stores from Roundy’s for approximately $65 million plus inventory.
Suitors for the remainder of Safeway's Dominick's stores in Chicago, which are now shuttering their doors, are beginning to come forward, according to a report published Saturday in the Chicago Sun-Times.
The purchase of as many as 10 Dominick's stores may be under consideration by independent grocery chains affiliated with the Centrella cooperative, Crain's Chicago Business reported Thursday, citing sources close to the deal.
Supervalu has appointed Rite Aid president, chairman and CEO John Standley to its board of directors, the supermarket operator said. The company also announced the appointment of Cerberus Capital Management COO and general counsel Mark Neporent.
