Increasingly, states are looking to address the prescription painkiller problem with as many as 375 proposals coursing through state legislatures that would regulated pain clinics and prescribing painkillers, The New York Times reported Friday. "The states are going to lead on this one because Big Pharma has too much power," Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, Democrat, told The New York Times. The New York Times added: "The pace of [legislative] activity in states has grown so intense that experts are having difficulty keeping track." (The New York Times)

Vitamin Shoppe named Walgreens Boots Alliance's former chief information officer to its board of directors, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. "Tim Theriault, who stepped down from Walgreens Boots in June 2015 after six years as the pharmacy retailer's technology chief, joined Vitamin Shoppe's board March 8 and is a member of the audit committee," The Journal reported. Theriault's appointment "is the result of our ongoing efforts to ensure that our board has the right mix of skills and experience necessary to advance our long-term goals," non-executive board chariman Richard Markee said in a statement.
