Pinnacle Foods announced on Monday that it has terminated its merger agreement with Hillshire Brands, originally announced May 12. Pinnacle is a producer of such branded food products as Vlasic pickles, Mrs. Butterworth syrups and Wishbone salad dressings.
Pilgrim's Pride Corp., the world's second-largest chicken producer, as well as one of the world's biggest protein companies, is in talks to acquire Hillshire Brands for $6.4 billion, according to a report from Reuters.
Pinnacle Foods announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Wish-Bone salad dressings business from Unilever PLC, in a transaction that is expected to be immediately accretive to Pinnacle. The acquisition, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be completed in late Q3 or early Q4 2013.
Parsippany, N.J.-based Pinnacle Foods — manufacturer and distributor of such food brands as Birds Eye, Duncan Hines, Vlasic, Mrs. Butterworth’s and others — opened for trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “PF” after its initial public offering.
