With more than 350 corporate-owned clinics in 20 states operating under the Healthcare Clinic banner and about 50 other clinics in its stores run by other providers, Walgreens has been at the forefront of the movement to make retail clinics a cornerstone of the American healthcare system.
While Walmart has more than 100 clinics in its more than 5,000 stores nationwide, the company plans to expand its network of clinics over the next few years to offer a cost-effective way for patients to receive acute and chronic medical care.
As public health authorities seek to raise awareness about HIV testing, a study funded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation is evaluating a model that may provide patients with increased access to HIV and Hepatitis C testing, and link patients to a specialized physician or health department as needed for further care.
Ten additional companies have signed on to participate in the Vision 2027 attraction at the 2016 National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Total Store Expo, which will be held Aug. 6-9 in Boston.
Pfizer said it does not expect the deal to affect its current 2016 financial guidance, and still expects it to be dilutive to earnings per share in 2017, with accretion kicking in in 2018 and increasing in the following years.
