Daiichi Sankyo on Monday announced that its Savaysa (edoxaban) tablets are now available in pharmacies across the United States. The drug was granted approval from the Food and Drug Administration on Jan. 8 and is used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients who have a non-valvular atrial fibrillation, as well as for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, the company said.

Despite the fact that this year’s flu vaccine doesn’t match up well with this year’s predominant flu strain, there were slightly more people getting their flu shots through early November 2014 than there were last season at that time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

Long before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledged that this year’s flu shot didn’t match up well with this year’s predominant flu virus, sales of cough, cold and flu remedies were on the rise.  According to IRI data for the 12 weeks ended Nov. 30, 2014, sales of cold/allergy/sinus liquids and powders were up 15% to $318.9 million across total U.S. multioutlets. And while much of that uptick in sales can be attributed to the new allergy remedy Nasacort 24HR, sales of traditional cold remedies were up significantly as well.
