The reasons given include the fact that health happens between doctor visits, adherence requires collaboration, the ability pharmacy sales impact health (as with CVS’ decision to stop selling tobacco and its reported drop in smoking rates where it has a large market share) and the importance of data in public heatlh, as well as the potential benefits retail health care poses for health systems. The New York Times is reporting that enrollment in health exchanges isn’t expected to grow much next year above current levels. “After an elaborate analysis of demographic data, Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the secretary of health and human services, said that 10 million people were expected to have marketplace coverage at the end of next year, up only about 100,000 from recent levels and millions short of earlier projections,” the report says. (The New York Times)

According to MyEastTex.com, H-E-B might be considering an acquisition of regional grocer Brookshire Grocery, based on information from a source close to the situation. If this deal comes to pass it would put HEB in markets beyond Texas for the first time, as Brookshire has stores in Southwestern Arkansas and western Louisiana. The company’s website store locator lists 117 stores — 80 in Texas, 26 in La. and 11 in Ark. (MyEastTex)

Livemint.com on Friday reported that the second-largest retail pharmacy chain in India, MedPlus Health Services, is looking for a buyer. “There is an interest for new investors to grow the business, as well as allow a few older investors to exit. We believe Madhukar Gangadi will steer the course to newer shores once additional growth and other funding is completed,” said Gopal Srinivasan, chairman and MD, TVS Capital Funds. (livemint.com)
