Retail clinics have been successful in reducing emergency room visits for minor and preventable conditions, Becker's Hospital Review reported Monday, citing a new working paper published by the National Bureau of Economic Research. According to the report, patients in New Jesrsey were 4.1% less likely to visit an emergency room for diabetes complications and 12.3% less likely to visit the ER for severe flu symptoms if they lived within two miles of an urgent care clinic. "If people across New Jersey lived within two miles of a retail clinic, it could generate more than $70 million in ER savings," Becker's reported. (Becker's Hospital Review)
