Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy is targeting three new store openings in 2011 and between three and six new stores each year through 2015. It’s a pace that would put the company at approximately 44 locations in time for the chain’s 15th anniversary, Mark Panzer, Pharmaca president and CEO, recently told Drug Store News.

The pharmacist isn’t just someone in a white coat who hands out bottles of pills anymore. The role of pharmacists has been changing and expanding dramatically over the last several years.

Now, pharmacists in all 50 states can offer a service previously reserved for doctors and nurses: 
administering vaccinations. Retail pharmacies across the country are racing to join the immunization trend, with Weis Markets recently announcing that it would spend the year making sure all its pharmacists were trained to give vaccinations.

The company already is recognized by parents for cold relief, with Hyland’s Cold & Cough 4Kids product sales growing by 250% per year, according to the company. 


SymphonyIRI Group has Hyland’s liquid cough-cold offerings at $5.6 million in sales across food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart) for the 52 weeks ended March 20 — up 388.4%.
