Citing union sources, The Bellingham Herald on Tuesday reported that Albertsons is prepared to acquire the remaining core stores of Haggen with the blessing of the Federal Trade Commission.

Going back at least to the mid-1800s, many community pharmacists have been given the informal title of “doc” or “doctor” by grateful local residents, particularly in smaller towns and rural communities where the local pharmacist might be the only health provider within miles. These days, the title is more than honorary; it’s a requirement.

Drug Channels on Thursday released its latest ranking of pharmacies based on total prescription revenues, with Walgreens Boots Alliance the largest of retail pharmacies, followed by CVS Health and Walmart. "We estimate that total revenues of retail, mail and specialty pharmacies reached $364.1 billion in 2015, up 12.1% from 2014," wrote Adam Fein, CEO Drug Channels Institute. "The top tier of dispensing pharmacies ... accounted for about 64% of U.S. prescription dispensing revenues in 2015." (Drug Channels)

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Albertsons is buying back 33 stores from bankrupt grocery chain Haggen — the same 33 stores it was required to sell when it acquired Safeway. Earlier reports suggested that Albertsons would likely be the buyer of the stores, but now the move is official. (Wall Street Journal

The Seattle Times is reporting that, according to court documents filed last week, Albertsons currently bidding on 36 of 95 stores being sold by the now-bankrupt Haggen. Albertsons had previously sold 146 stores to Haggen as part of its acquisition of Safeway. [Seattle Times]

Five pharmacists at the company’s Randalls supermarkets in Austin, Texas have dedicated themselves to diabetes management. Since February 2013, the pharmacists — Clarissa Wallace, Kristy Solominsky, Deborah DeYoung, Sonia Borja and Sal Solis — have been working closely with the city of Austin, insurer United Healthcare and Austin-based Seton Hospital to help municipal employees learn how to manage their diabetes.
