Portable oral care continues to be on the upswing, and it is likely that the segment will continue to experience growth as Americans age and take more medications and oral health conditions also rise.
According to SymphonyIRI Group, a Chicago-based market research firm, sales of portable oral care rose more than 18% for the 52 weeks ended Jan. 22 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart). Many of the products within this segment aim to battle dry mouth or xerostomia. Studies have shown that up to 400 medications — prescriptions and OTCs — can contribute to dry mouth. A symptom of xerostomia is bad breath.
