Gothamist is reporting that New York City pharmacy Thompson Chemists has launched a unique promotion, with signs saying that male customers will be subject to a 7% “man tax.” The “man tax” is actually the owner’s way of protesting what many call the “pink tax” — the 7% more that products marketed to women in New York cost than those marketed to men, according to a New York City Department of Consumer Affairs — by offering a 7% discount to women, which more or less cuts out sales tax. "So far, the women are very, very happy," owner Jolie Alony told Gothamist. “Men haven't complained yet, they've just laughed.” (Gothamist)

Shoppers Drug Mart has agreed to provide auditory labelling free of charge at all of its locations in B.C., The Province reported Friday. According to the report, the new labels are encoded with RFID technology that can be read aloud using a device called a ScripTalk Reader, where a robotic voice lists off all the same information that a sighted customer might find on his or her written prescription label. “This is a victory for people with sight loss, and their efforts to live fully independent lives,” Diane Bergeron of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind told The Province. “But it is only the first step toward creating an inclusive system that incorporates the needs of persons with disabilities.” (The Province)
