Ad Age is reporting that many of the top 100 CPG brands have lost market share and sales in the past year, despite an overall increase in total sales — and the slip is due to smaller brands. “Far and away, the current buyer of the brand is where the sales lift is won or lost, whether that brand is no longer meeting a need and demand is shifting to new or niche players or to private-label offerings,” Catalina U.S. president Todd Morris said. “We're seeing the long tail of brands are winning the hearts and minds of shoppers.” (Ad Age)

 The New York Times is reporting YouTube is planning new ads that will allow users to purchase a product featured in a video by clicking it, which takes them to a retailer’s website. “Over the course of the year, we’ve been working hard to make videos more interactive, shortening the distance between the time a viewer sees an ad and their actual purchase,” YouTube said.
