Bloomberg is reporting that one the challenges facing Johnson & Johnson is it's loss of market share in the baby care category in the U.S. The report — and J&J CFO Dominic Caruso — are attributing this loss to the increased interest among consumers (parents in particular), and Caruso said the company has taken steps to remove such ingredients as parabens from its products, and that it is planning to unveil a new branding effort this week. At Kantar Retail’s Drug Channel Workshop in early May, director Brian Owens noted that as much as 25% to 30% of supplier and retail innovations will be centered around fresh, local, organic, natural and health products — something he called the “FLONH” effect. Australian pharmaceutical company Starpharma Holdings is teaming up with Ansell, makers of LifeStyle condoms, to supply Zika virus-proof condoms to the Australian Olympic team ahead of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro games, Reuters reported Monday. Starpharma said it is giving the Australian athletes Ansell "Dual Protect" condoms lubricated with Starpharma's VivaGel product. "Given sexual transmission of Zika virus is of increasing importance, the potent activity of Starpharma's VivaGel against Zika could prove very significant," stated Starpharma CEO Jackie Fairley.
