DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens celebrated the official opening of its latest flagship store, located at Powell and O’Farrell streets in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood. Like many of the flagships, the store, which opened at 10 a.m. Wednesday, is tailored to reflect the uniqueness of San Francisco at a location where Walgreens has been present since 1946.
“This is our first flagship location in Northern California, and we look forward to helping the residents and visitors of the Union Square neighborhood get, stay and live well,” stated Mark Wagner, Walgreens president of operations and community management. “Our flagship stores are unlike any traditional drug store and reflect our transformation into a retail health and daily living destination.”
The store’s expanded features include a Look Boutique beauty department that features dozens of prestige and niche cosmetic, skincare and hair care brands including Britain’s leading skincare and cosmetics brand, No7, created by Boots.
Nearby, a replica display of Ghirardelli Square will pay homage to the neighborhood's local history and will offer one of the largest selections of Ghirardelli premium chocolates and gift selections in the San Francisco area.
In recognition of the community and the company’s mission to help people get, stay and live well, Walgreens will be presenting the San Francisco Police Department with automated external defibrillators. Walgreens is donating 10 AEDs. A squad car from each of the city’s 10 police districts will receive a device.
