DEERFIELD, Ill. Walgreen Co. has completed its acquisition of CuraScript Infusion Pharmacy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Express Scripts. The acquired home infusion specialty firm will be merged with Walgreens’ expanding specialty pharmacy operations under Option Care Enterprises, a subsidiary.
Based in Louisville, Ky., CuraScript is in its 17th year providing home infusion services for patients who require complex therapies including anti-viral, immune deficiency, inotropic, chemotherapy and pain management treatments. Walgreens acquired each of CuraScript Infusion Pharmacy’s 12 facilities located in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee.
“This acquisition further expands our national coverage in home infusion services,” said Paul Mastrapa, president of Walgreens-OptionCare. “We now operate more than 100 home infusion locations in 35 states. CuraScript Infusion Pharmacy is highly regarded in the industry for its clinical expertise and commitment to exceptional patient care.”
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but Walgreens did reveal that Express Scripts will retain ownership of CuraScript Specialty Pharmacy and CuraScript Specialty Distribution.
